"Can you fill these empty barrels with something fun?" That was the challenge Kjetil presented me with over a coffee a stormy Tuesday morning in October."How about something strong and dark?" I wondered. "25% dark malts, 30% rye, 28 degres Plato."That’ll never work." said Kjetil. 1 kilo malts/L, 48 hours of brewing and 2 years on old Armanac barrels later, I feel free to say: "Well, wouldn’t you know... it worked".

Intensiv schokoladenmalziger Antrunk mit würzigen, leicht süßen Noten. Etwas rauchig, süffig, vollmundig, sehr rund. Wenig Kräuter. Perfekt ausbalanciert! 12/12/13/13/12/13

Bottle (Uppsala Beer Festival 2014) - Black in colour. Plain chocolate, coffee and tar in the aroma. Rich taste with coffee, plain chocolate, liquorice and roasted malt. Not up to the usual high standard from this brewery.

33cl bottle @BierBier. Black colored with a thin but lasting brown head. Medicine notes, strong herbal nose. Interesting. Flavor has Anise, spices medicine and licorice. Cough medicine . This is good stuff.

(Bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Feb 18 2015) Pours pitch black with a big brown frothy head with lots of lace. Nose has loads of brandy replete with alcohol, a bit of wood, sweet dark malt, hints of chocolate and leafy licorice notes. Palate is quite sweet with lots and lots of licorice. Dark malt and toffee. Some brandy vinousness. Just a little bit of wood too. Finish has more wood in it, along with licorice and a light hint of roast. Medium-full bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty rich stout with lots of depth to the malt flavours and good contribution from barrels, not overly woody. Unfortunately the licorice just overpowers the rest of the beer way too much and turns a great stout back into a pretty good one.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch #882. ABV is 14%, 25 IBU. Pitch black colour, no head. Minimal carbonation. Aroma of molasses, liquorice, black rye bread, hints of oak, but the armagnac is drowned in liquorice. Rich flavour, medium sweet, loads of salty liquorice, some oak, medium bitter finish.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - brygget 05.11.12 - BB 05.11.27, at Pikkulintu, 20150205) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and light brown. Aroma had liquorice, vineousness and booze. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were salty liquorice, burnt malts, wood, vanilla, ash, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste had liquorice, burnt malts, wood and bitterness. A very strong flavoured brew. Wood was present but it wasn’t too dominating which was good.
