This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics. Despite the 13% ABV, you'll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it's definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden.

Black colour, no head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel, roasted malts. Flavour of coffee, cacao, malts, quite spicy, soy sauce. Quite light carbonation, silky mouthfeel. Finish chocolate and coffee.
(from 25cL hand bottle @ RBBWG III, Gent 2014. Thanks for sharing, Danko!!)

Sampler bouteille @ RBBWG III, thanks Danko.

25 cl. hand bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2014. Courtesy of & thx! to Danko. Bottled shortly prior to consumption. Lighter black with no head. Nose is sweet, mellow mocha, caramel, dark chocolate. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, mocha, touch soy sauce & charcoal, bitter herbs, overripe fruit. Creamy, lower carb. Solidon its own but cannot hold a candle to the regular one. RIS is prob. not the style that benefit the most from this kind of treatment.

21/XII/13 - on tap @ Struise Schooltje (Oostvleteren) - BB: n/a (2013-1161) Thanks to Cis for sharing today's beers!

Note: tasted side by side with the regular Black Albert on tap.
Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, pretty stable, little adhesive. Aroma: bit sour, bretta even, hoppy, somee citrus, lemony, dusty, very weird, smells a lot like lambik. MF: soft to no carbon, full body, smooth creamy texture. Taste: little sour, caramel, overripe fruits, very soft smooth coffee flavours. Aftertaste: little bitter, mocha, coffee, soft roastedness, caramel, dark chocolate, some alcohol noticeable, little dirty, touch of hops. Same conclusion here: the regular version is better, although this one is certainly not bad. Especially the smooth creamy texture of a cask ale is impressive.
