Bomber from Total Wine West Richmond, VA. 2011 Vintage. Pours a dark brown color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, earthy notes, faint raisin and an earthy hop finish. The taste is toffee, nougat, earth, raisins and a bitter herbal hop finish. Medium-full bodied, slight lingering bitterness. Decent barleywine.

65 cl bottle vintage 2011 @ Pike Brewery, Seattle
Aroma is rather sweet with caramel and ripe fruits. Flavour is sweet with lots of raisins, some slightly harsh malt and fruit sugar. Too sweet stuff, the raisins are nice though.

22oz bottle pours a hazy, copper amber with some spitty white head. Nose is piney, orange, pine needles, metal, honey, a little grapefruit. Flavor is mostly sweet, crackers, metal, grapefruit, white grape, lemons, oranges, candy. Medium bodied, dry finish. Seems to be in a weird phase where the best parts have aged out and better parts have yet to age in.

A reddish brown barley wine with a thin light moka head. In aroma, nice vinous malt, with west coast floral hops, treacle, and sweet caramel. In mouth, a smooth sweet barley wine with candy sugar, British hops, oily mouthfeel, nice and smooth, but a bit short. Bottle at Mondiale 2011, June 10 2011.

Pours a cloudy red orange color with a creamy off white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of vanilla, caramel, pine, brown sugar, and a touch of alcohol. Taste is resinous with a thin caramel and brown sugar that slides away almost instantly. Lots of pine and bitter resin midway and into the dry finish. Light carbonation, medium bordering on thin body, bitter, sticky, resinous mouthfeel. This one is only ok. The body is a bit thin for my taste, its acridic in its bitterness.

Geht so... Danke an DerDoppelbock für das Bier! 12/9/11/11/9/10

22 oz. bottle, pours dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of browns sugar, toffee and lots of dark fruits (especially raisins). Flavour of brown sugar, burnt caramel, dark fruits and a little bit of a vinous quality. Not much sweetness, but just enough to balance out the dryer qualities. Excellent barley wine.

Sample at the Eurostash II tasting on 12/12/09: 2006 & 2007 bottles. This beer pours a deep amber-brown color with a thin and creamy beige head that recedes slowly. Thick rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is hoppy with notes of brown sugar, caramel malt and pine. Rich body with a resiny character and a piney hops flavor along with notes of toffee, smoked malt, and fruit. The finish is sweet molasses and a lingering hops aftertaste. Of the two vintages I preferred the 2007 a little more as it had a slightly better balance but the beers were very similar.
