Bottle, shared with Michael. Pours black, with a small, fleeting, tan head. Peat, oak, and vanilla aromas up front, with some milk chocolate, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Sweet and syrupy, with a mild, sticky bitterness. Heavy body, with a dusty, hard mouthfeel. This is a big and boozy beer, with a lot of depth.

Bottle from Dennoman. @ RBBWG 2015. Dark brown/black. Soft carbonation. Sweet aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla and bourbon. Light bitter aftertaste. Good, maybe a bit too sweet.

Thanks to Dennoman! Bottle sampled @ RBBWG IV. Pours blackish, little mocha bubbles. Smell is incredible, rich boozy bourbon, almost spirit-like, thick mocha, creamy chocolate. Taste is sweet, warming mocha, chocolate, big vanilla bourbon, warming brown sugar,… Body might be thicker. Awesome beer, best new beer of RBBWG IV.

Clear dark purple brown beer, aery beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots and lots of overripe fruits, some banana, lots of alcohol, sugary, some vanilla, caramel. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of vanilla, some milk chocolate, sugary, sweet, cème brûlée, alcohol, bit sugary, burnt caramel, more alcohol. Aftertaste: lots of vanilla, sweet, bit sugary, more caramel, alcohol, quite a lot of alcohol actually.

Bottle @ RBBWG 2015 shared by Dennoman. Very dark brown to black color, average sized light brown head. Aroma is incredible: malts, lightly roasty, loads of bourbon yet still balanced. Taste malts, roasty, vanilla, chocolate, unfortunately a hint of (Dutch) ’hopjesvla’, bourbon, sweet-bitter. Insanely good aroma, lovely flavor but I don’t like the ’hopjesvla’ flavor in there. Medium to full body, suitable carbonation. Lovely.

On tap in Denver for GABF 2012. I think this may have contrubuted to my own liquid brain but anyway...Pours a deep brown color. A big nose of syrup, wood and smoke. The flavor is deeper with coffee, dark fruity syrup, dark fruit, syrah? Very good. Interesting as hell.

10th October 2008. GABF. Bloody hell this was confusing! This was served as Royal Oil at GABF but the beer is a thick black stout. This was so good we visited the brewpub but when we asked for Royal Oil what we got was a brown barrel aged barleywine! Later on we got this beer by it’s proper name. So I am sure as I can be this was mislabelled at GABF 08. Went back again and again for this beer - marvelous! It’s an opaque black stout. Light and creamy palate. Wonderful non dry oak and bourbon flavours. Sweet creamy bourbon finish. Fantastic.
