’Dopplebock’ means double strong beer and it was originally brewed by monks to help sustain them through the fasting of Lent. So celebrate the holidays with this rich and dark malt. The dry and spicy fruit flavour will finish dry and linger on the palate.

nice dark redish brown color. quite clear. small off white head that dissipates quickly. Slight malt in the aroma, not as much as i expected, its more fruity. Flavour is rich, and full of dark ripe fruit, such as figs, and berries. The malt is there, but not as prominent as you would expect in a doppelbock. A good beer, but not very akin to the style.

From memory. Had a pile of these last Christmas - great scent of malts and slight fruitiness, not exactly Belgian but close enough. Nice big alcohol buzz. Good stuff.

Very clear, chestnut brown color. Caramel, bread, milk chocolate and oranges in the nose. The mouth is thick and syrupy with notes of bread, caramel and milk chocolate. Warming caramel finish. My tummy is warm now. I think this is Granville Island’s best beer and a good example of the style.

Whoo... my second doppelbock. The beer is dark, but not completely black. The head is not really there on top of it or anything. Taste is extremely sweet. A little spicy... not as bitter as many people are saying, actually I noticed ratehr little bitterness in the taste.

Orange amber bock with an off-white head. Malty aroma with vinous notes and orange peels. Sweet malty taste with fruity esters and woody scotch notes. rich bodied. Thanks JM.

2006: Golden-brown colour. Demerara, cherry, brandy and some medicinal phenols in the aroma (thankfully not the bubblegum of past years but still...phenols in a doppelbock?). The body is sweet, fairly thick. I mean it’s almost syrupy. Demerara and tea dominate with more of the brandy and cherry notes, maybe some wood. Sweet, alcoholic finish. Potent and brash, but unrefined as doppelbocks go. This year’s scores a few points higher than previous editions.

2005: Bronze-amber colour. Hints of peach and bubblegum in the aroma. This bubblegum had me thinking dubbel when I first tasted it and though I can see more doppelbock qualities this time around (at the brewery) I still have to put on my style police hat with regards to the bubblegum. Earthy, slightly caramelly malts are the focus of the flavour, with light toffee notes. A sweetish, chewy beer. Ar 6, Ap 4, F 6, P 3, Ov 11 = 3.0

Gorgeous mahogany color, lasting beige head.Nose of brown sugar & a hint of cherry.Sweet malty taste, light alcohol heat , but the slight metallic taste spoils an otherwise decent beer. A touch of hops present in the finish
