Can, picked up at the brewery. Now 5.4%. Soft haze on a very deep, amber red. Thick, uneven, lasting, off white head. Nose has jammy hop. Spicy malt. Notes of ginger and berry fruit. Chewy toffee. Touch of pine. Taste is nicely balanced jammy sweetness, and robust, spicy hop bitterness. Medium body. Fine carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish keeps the spicy hop vibe going. Nice.

Big bubbly off-white head. More dirty brown in color with red highlights toward the light. Nose of grain. Taste is hops upfront, grain in the end. Light cotton mouth dry finish. Good during dinner. Overall not bad, I wouldn’t drink again.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy dark brown with a small white head. Aroma is roasted malt and slight breadish. Dark roasted malt. Breadish. Dry and roasted. Slight bitter and dense malty finish.

On draught 4/16/05 at the brewpub. Medium-cherry-auburn red body, with a light tinge of brown. Light beige head is moderately well-retained and the beer has a light chill-haze. Aroma of brown bread, sweet and doughy, with light hints of cherries, wood, cream and fruity hops. Flavor begins with a well pronounced malt, light creamy-vanilla/honey with some light vienna malt huskiness, caramel on the finish and flavorful, fruity hops to add complexity and balance. Only lightly bitter. Smooth, slick mouthfeel does get a touch thin and lightly astringent from a drying graininess, on the end, but the flavor starts out wonderfully full, so I am not so concerned by the light astringency on the finish. Medium body overall and quite drinkable.

Red copper ale with light white head. Light malt and caramel aroma. Good nutty malt and light hops. Nice bitter finish with oily mouthfeel. Like Hophead siad, a good session!. Dec. 2004.
