Medium yellowish brown hread. Hazy deep amber barely translucent body with carbonation. Intense chocolatey roasty caramel aroma with oily, bready notes. Round and harmonic. Deep sweet roasty fruity caramel and chocolate taste with fruity bready notes. Harmonic. Some alcohol heat is noticeable, unsurprisingly. Very full-bodied. Maybe a bit on the sweet side, but saved by the alcohol from becoming cloying. Some bitterness is noticeable, but not much. Very nice! (0.341l bottle traded from glouglouburp. 2007 vintage.)

Test vom 4.11.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,10,10,12,10,11 - 10,70

341ml bottle from Glouglouburp, 2007 (why is it already retired?). Another weird thing, there is no English on the bottle, it’s all in French. Isn’t that against the law or something? Pours dark brown with a small head but a rather sticky lacing. Aroma is strong, starts off boozy, prune-y maltiness then comes lots of dark fruits, some light herbal-ness, some faint cereal. Taste is similarly dominated with boozy prunes and some light chocolate. Aftertaste is long with chocolate and slight over-rip plums and some alcohol. Slight warming on the tongue. A medium-light beer with a slightly fizzy mouthfeel from the carbonation. A bit more than half way done with the bottle and starting to feel the alcohol.

Hiver 2011 bottle, tasted Fev 2012. Hazy reddish-brown. Looks dark away from the light but has a lot of red in the light. Cool. The aroma is rich and plummy, with prunes, light molasses, a vinous note...complex and attractive aroma. Full body, with rich fruits, complex dark sugars and almost a hint of chocolate. Some alcoholic dryness and a hint of tartness. Complex and delicious - not much like a weizenbock but a really nice strong Belgian (or Quebecois-style) ale.
Old rating (2007): Very cloudy. Deep burgundy with a little brown to it. Chewy, deep malts - hints at chocolate and dark fruit. Late splash of alcohol. It’s a very big rendition of the style, and the maltiness definitely stands up to overwhelm some of the fruitiness/phenolicness you’d expect from the style. But it is a nice winter brew. 7 -4 - 7 - 3 - 14 = 3.5

Bouteille 2006.

Bottle: Poured a deep hazy brown color weizen bock with a big foamy brown head with great retention and good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some very subtle clove notes. Taste is dominated by sweet cookie dough malt with some dry figs/plums notes. Even though there is some complex layer in this beer, I thought that the sweetness from the malt was just overwhelming at the end and something fruitier or ester to cut down some of the sweetness would have been great. Overall, while this is a very good and complex beer I still feel the sweetness need to be balance.

A deep dark brown bock with a thick lacing dark moka head. Aroma is impressive, with figs, licorice, caramel and alcohol. The taste is quite good, with a sweet fruity malt, vanilla fudge, licroice. A smooth warming alcohol comes out well in final. A rich and round body. One of their better offerings. On tap at Benelux on Dec. 23, 2006.
