750 ml bottle into snifter, 2013 bottling. Pours very hazy dark ruby red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, pear, apple, fig, toast, toffee, molasses, red grape, oak, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt, yeast ester, and port barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, raisin, fig, pear, apple, red grape, oak, clove, herbal, light chocolate, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy tannin-like tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, molasses, raisin, fig, pear, apple, red grape, oak, clove, herbal, light chocolate, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of malt, yeast ester, and barrel flavors; with a nice malt/tannin balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and lightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice scotch ale. All around good balance and complexity of malt, yeast ester, and port barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2013. Limited to 20.000 bottles. Dark amber with a tanned head. Nose carries minerals, herbal, sticky spices, oak and raisins with light Port. Taste is bitter minerals, sweetish spices, toffee, touch roasted, sticky, simple sugary Port tastes, dark fruits, raisins, faint red grapes. Touch lighter body than expected. Not bad but expected a bit more from this one.

From a 75 cl bottle shared at home. Pours a murky brown with a thick ecru head. Sweet malty nose. Flavors of port wine, oak and toasted nuts. Medium bodied, high carbonation, effervescent finish.
