Ale Brewed with Chocolate and Raspberries (Smokestack Series)

We're always looking for new, playful ways to approach the art of brewing, and with that in mind we invited Christopher Elbow back to the brewery to reimagine our very popular Chocolate Ale. This exciting new version adds the bright flavors and aromas of raspberry, for a fresh take on an old favorite.

750ml bottle . 2 years past expiration. Still holds up well enough I suppose. Has that loud soda like infected fast fading head. It works with the raspberry but the cocoa tones are eaten away and soured over. I suppose probably quite (d)evoled. OK.

750 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy brown red color with a large white head. A big fruity berry nose. The flavor is big sweet berries, chocolate, tart berries. Solid.

750 ml bottle poured into a tulip. Best by September 2016. Murky brownish amber with two fingers of beige head. Aromas of big raspberries, light cocoa. Tastes of rasperry, cocoa, a bit medicinal. Medium-light body with a dry finish. I enjoy their regular Chocolate Ale but this one didn’t quite mesh well on the taste for me.

Draft at Rustico Alexandria for the SAVOR Week Ultimate Hump Day Celebration - 20 Rare Brews on Tap event. Poured an amber color, light brown, but clear. Aroma was some raspberry, malt, chocolate notes. Strange raspberry chocolate cordial flavor. Interesting.

Hazy pale red colour. Aroma is strong with raspberry syrup. Flavour is full of raspberry. It’s probably more sweet than sour. Has the bitterness of raspberry pits in the finish.

Bottle @ LIBF’16. Shared with the RB Belgian team.

16/V/16 - sample @ Leuven Innovation - BB: n/a (2016-557) Thanks to the Belgian RB crew for sharing today's beers!

Clear orange to pale amber beer, creamy beige head, head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: wow! This is raspberry and chocolate smell indeed, much like the Jaffa Cakes (Pim's Cakes in Belgium) for those who know it, the raspberry flavoured ones, obviously, not the orange ones. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lots and lots of raspberry jam, fruity, bit sourish, metallic touch, some chocolate but not as obvious as in the smell. Aftertaste: fruity, raspberries, sourish, some tannins, bitter touch, lovely beer, this one!

No head in secs; reddish, faintly cloudy beer. Aroma as the pink raspberry, semi-viscous filling in Be chocolates. Bit too artificial; chocolate obvious. Raspberry, -jam and milkchocolate; slight fruitacidity. Very spritzy carbonation, beer not very dense, certainly not for 9+% ABV. Don’t really like the perfumey nose. Taste saves the beer for me, however.
