Bottle at the Cotteridge Convention thanks to Fergus. It pours jet black with a small beige head. The nose is rich chocolate cake, lactose, coffee, caramelized stuff, cream and Mini Milk ice lolly. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, earth, toast, rich roast, ashy, burnt wood and some coffee grounds with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate+ carbonation. Decent balance and rather easy going. Fine.

66cl bottle, slow gusher. pitch dark, smooth light brown head.aroma is dry roasted malts, faint note of grinded roasted coffee. very dry. good hopping blends in, adds character, but you won’t notice unless you look for it. flavor is roasted malts, hard roasted malts, quite dry. really good attempt at hitting an irish dry stout, the way that guinness ought to be.

24th Jan 2015: shared bottle at the Cotteridge Wine meet. Black body, beige head. The nose was full on maltiness with coffee and chocolate pushing out the sweeter caramel esters in the background, hints of over roasting/burnt malts too. Same with the taste, malts all the way with a mildly smoked undertone to the whole flavour. Expected more, but enjoyed the beer all the same.

Gusher. Huge dark brown head. Opaque black body. Roasty earthy cold coffee aroma with spicy wooden notes. Dry roasty metallic cold coffee taste with earthy mealy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry roasty earthy wooden aftertaste with chocolatey notes. There are traces of sugar, but they’re in the background. Nice, drinkable, certainly lots of flavour for the alcohol. (0.65l bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Strømmen.)

Bottle shared by tderoeck. Very dark burgundy beer, as good as black, under a thin, beige head. Pleasant aroma of caramelly and chocolatey malts, liquorice, hints of sweet tobacco, coffee powder and bayleaf. Sweet maltiness in the mouth, caramelly and nutty, dried fruits, raisins, coffee-like roasted bitterness in the end but everything in a somewhat subdued way; fairly thin body too, even if compared to stouts of the same ABV. Decent stout, but could have been better if it had a thicker maltiness to it.

Thanks to tderoeck! 650 ml. bottle sampled @ “Tim needs to get rid of his ticks” Tasting. Enjoyed with tderoeck, Benzai & Alengrin. Black with basically no head. Nose feels a bit muted, very oily & cheap chocolate syrup with agreeable thickness, not very expressive but with a possibility of potential. Taste is a letdown, bitter soy sauce, oily herbs, lots of burned toast, herbs, light roast, oily. Close to flat, even the body makes me think a bit of soy sauce. Guinness is preferable to this.
