The Big DIPA is a massively hoppy beer, yet with a surprisingly elegant profile. To a lush malt base infused with rye, we hop this beer 4 different times during the brewing process — in the kettle, in the hopback, and it is dry hopped twice after we age the beer on untoasted white oak. The result is an imperial IPA that is perfectly balanced and extremely drinkable. Cheers to the Big DIPA, may it guide you safely home!

22 oz bottle. Poured a hazy golden orange color with a fluffy white head. Aroma was a blast of citrus hops, touch of pine resin, with a decent malt character to it. Flavor was citrus, touch of boozy alcohol, notes of sweet malt. Lingering malt, alcohol.

Bomber from Whole Foods Charlottesville, 7/30/14. Pours a clear red color with a large foamy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of floral hops, rye, earth, oak. The taste is rye, floral hops, caramel malt, pale malt, berries, dark fruits, oak. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness, maybe just a tiny bit too much on the sweet side.

65 cl. bottle sampled @ "Er Klopt Iemand Op De Deur" Samson & Gert Bierproeving I. Thanks to tderoeck! Spare rocky light brown head. Lightly hazy dark redish amber. Harsh straw, herbs, grapefruit peel, resin, toffee, caramel, nutmeg underneath, vanilla, leading into a very harsh herbal hop finish. Bit like BrewDog but way better. Sweet, American Strong base with brutal herbal hop finish, interesting & nice. Full, creamy, average carbonation. Not the average USA DIPA, nice.

Thick cream-coloured/ creamy head over hazy orange-brown beer. Very perfumey-aromatic nose with C-hops, grapey, passion fruit and rosewater. Bitter, but also other grains. Quite dry; hoppy, but fairly bitter fruity flavour. Hint at bitter chocolate, tannines. Quite slick, hopoily, medium bodied at least. More than decent, if not really great IIPA. The dry bitterness stands perpendicular on the fruity, nearly oversweet nose.

Refrigerated brown bomber 2014, extra from Drake, poured into a snifter. Pours clear amber with small off-white head. Aroma is oaky, medium body, lower carbonation, and some small bubble lacing. Taste is herbal hops and oaky. Alcohol is pretty well covered and drinks pretty easy for such a high abv.

I received this in a trade, 2014 bottle.
The appearance has a nice semi-dark brown color with a slight ruby edge to it. There is a one and a half finger white foamy head that hangs around for a good minute and once it starts to die has a nice luscious and thick foamy lacing gracing the sides of the glass.
The smell basically has a ton of caramel up front. I do get a slight oaky/wood aroma hanging amidst some light bitter hop characteristics.
The taste has a super smooth sweet caramel character resting upon a decent bitterness trying to invade my taste buds. The aftertaste has some sharpness from the bitter hops along with a decent medium amount of caramel malts. There is a quick dry finish.
On the palate, she sits about a medium on the body with a decent slightly oily texture to it. The carbonation is noticeable for the DIPA style and is pretty good to me.
Overall, for a DIPA, I would say sessionability is not quite there, but that’s ok with me because I see the ABV on this beer and I would say it probably really is that percentage as I’m starting to feel the effects. In my opinion, this beer is well worthy of coming back to.

Bottle 2014. Light hazy copper, golden head. Fresh citric and piney hop notes. Light caramel roasted base, nicely restained barrel notes. Slightly sticky/resinny on the palate, light sparkly, dry grass/pine/herb finish
