Robijnrood bier met stevig roze schuim.
Aroma van frambozen en kersen.
Smaak is fruitig en toch licht zuur.
Nasmaak is eveneens zuur.

330 ml bottle. Pours a red brown with short head. Aromas of sweet cherry syrup and toasted malts. Flavors of dark cherries with both tart and sweet notes plus a little figs and wood, and more toasted malts.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark red / mahogany with a small beige head. Nose is loaded with intense cherry cough syrup that drowns out anything else. Flavour is somehow much less sweet than expected, with intense cherry juice, gentle Belgian yeast expression, and above average carbonation that cuts down on some of the perceived sweetness. It's still too sweet and juice-like for me, but it's not bad for what it is, I suppose.

Ces bières aromatisées à la cerise ont réellement du mal à me convaincre…Pourtant j'avais de l'espoir avec cette Piraat et ses 10 % qui, je l'espérais allaient donner un peu de caractère. Mon espoir ne dura cependant pas. Comme à l'habitude, le visuel est cependant sympathique avec un rosé limpide avec une fine effervescence et quasiment sans mousse. On déchante au nez qui est sur des arômes de cerise artificielle. En bouche, il en va de même avec en plus un sucre que je n'attendais pas à ce niveau. On ne sent absolument pas la puissance et le caractère de la Piraat mais heureusement que le titrage est à 10 %, car sinon avec ce sucre, ce serait je pense imbuvable. Comme beaucoup de bières du genre, nous sommes ici sur du bourrin sans grand intérêt.

Van Steenberge cashing in on the 'rouge' trend of strong, top-fermented, red candy-flavoured beers (which, frankly, do not deserve to be called 'fruit beers' in the first place as far as I am concerned); bottle at the Cabane Banane summer bar on the grounds of the Ghent university (campus De Sterre). Medium thick, pale pinkish-tinged off-white, slowly breaking, shred-lacing head on a clear, deep and dark but glowing ruby red beer. Aroma of 'poepegatjes' and 'dropveters' (red candy), candyfloss, cough syrup, liquorice, Parfait Amour liqueur, rubber, grenadine, wine gums, brown rum. Sickly sweet onset, lots of red candy, wine gums and candy apple, sourish undertone in a non-natural way, spritzy carb, full mouthfeel; lean bready core buried under a truckload of raspberry-flavoured bubblegum, grenadine, cough syrup and, more than anything, red (Haribo) candy. A late hop bitterish note appears deep in the finish, along with a glow of rum-like alcohol, but this sugary red candy effect remains obviously very dominant, to the point where it makes me want to vomit. Sticking to the teeth and mixing unpleasant aromas and flavours in a completely unstructured way, this one makes me even more skeptical about this 'rouge' hype (think Kasteelbier Rouge, Leffe Ruby, Delirium Red and so on) - a type of beer incomprehensibly popular in Belgium for years on end now. I thoroughly hate this beer category (which should be its own beer style here) and I already hated Van Steenberge's politics, so this was never going to be any good, I know; but I tried to judge it as unprejucidedly as possible - and admittedly failed. Drain pour for me, but there is no doubt that this kind of bullsh*t has its audience.

Draught at Skaal Sønderborg. Sweet and citric cherry aroma. Almost clear deep red colour. Good stable pink head. The flavour of like the aroma, sweet, citric cherry but also has some alcohol bitterness. Does not taste its ABV though.

Draught @ SKAAL Sønderborg. Pours cloudy dark ruby red with airy but stable pinkish head. Clear aroma of fruit and malt, with touches of yeast and hints of vanilla. Dry, vinous taste with sweetish, estery, fruity and malty notes and touches of vanilla. Dry aftertaste with malty and estery touches. Warming alcohol presence. Well-balanced and satiating. Very nice.

Közepes, tartós hab, vörös szín. Vörös gyümölcsös, enyhén gabonás és élesztős illat. Meggyes, málnás, cseresznyés ízek, határozott komlós, fűszeres, borsos vonásokkal. Testes, közepesen szénsavas, közepesen keserű. Finom, a borsossága miatt szokatlan ízvilágú sör.
