Bottle 0,75ltr: Golden coloured ale with more character than the regular blond, with an coriander tatse in it.

Corked bottle, bought @ Morshuis in Albergen. Pale golden color, pours a huge head. A fine blend of malt and citric flowery hops in the aroma. Malty sweet, slightly perfumed yet firm flowery citric hopbitter flavor. Well balanced, pleasant ale. Slightly yeasty aftertaste with hints of peach. Well done.

Luxury bottle celebrating the 175th birthday of the brewery some years ago, with light yellowish white, creamy, sticky, stable head and warm colour of ’old gold’ with vivid sparkling, clear at first but hazy after adding the deposit, as expected. Friendly citrus notes in the nose (fresh orange peel), some peach, some banana, white pepper, flowers, white bread, iron. Fresh citrussy touch with strong, mineral-like carbonation, dry fruitiness, lean and honeyish, dryish malt base, finishing in grassy hoppiness, long and dry but also due to not well-hidden, bit astringent alcohol.

Flasche (75 cl), MHD: 11/2013. - Goldgelb, leicht trüb. - Obergärig fruchtig-hefige Nase mit leicht fuselig-süßlicher Note. - Antrunk plump malzsüß mit leicht fruchtiger Herbe: Pfirsich mit dumpfer Bittere. Schaumig rezent.

Dobre i elegancka etykieta, produkcja dla gastronomii w Antwerpii. W sam raz do sytego posilku. Korek huknal glosno i poszedl dymek, piana za to srednia i niezbyt trwala jak na belgie. W smaku czuc morele i jasne grona. Slodowe i z lekka goryczka w tle. Finisz wytrawny.

Strong golden beer, with lots of ingredients. Malty, fruity and herbal. Nice, but not very special.

Thanks! to Kraddel for the bottle. 2011 Vintage (BBF 24/09/2011). One of the 2 beers that De Koninck has released which are meant for “fine” dining etc. Packaging reminds me of cava bottles which are all the rage still in Belgium. I am fairly certain that this association is intentional. I am probably not the intended target here. 75 cl. bottle @ home. Golden, quickly collapsed white head. Rubbing alcohol nose, grass, slightly BE yeast sweet, light soap,… Taste is banana, soap, plastic, light rubbing alcohol burn in the back, sweet BE yeast, light fruity & flowers, dominating bitter chemical finish, lots of medicine, nasty,… Touch too high carb. Far from dazzling. Despite being from Antwerp, I still cannot manage to be a homer for this brewery. Nothing safe for their one-off and now gone Modeste beer is really worth having. This is actually their highest rated available beer. They do certainly have a place, their flagship beer can be had in most bars for very little more than a generic pale lager. It is a nicer option so for that they can be appreciated. Still…
