With Robert The Great we refer to Lord of Liddesdale, Robert I, popularly known as Robert the Bruce, was king of Scotland from 1306 until his death in 1329. Robert I was one of the most famous warriors of his generation, eventually leading Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence against England. He fought successfully during his reign to regain Scotland’s place as an independent country and today is revered in Scotland as a national hero. This naughty one does what Robert once did, conquering a place of independence in the wild jungle of globalization.

330 ml bottle. 2019 vintage. Aroma of toasted, caramel, toffee, and maybe prune. Almost reminds me of a scotch ale. Flavor is the same with a little bit of light alcohol warming after the sip. Alcohol isn’t hidden, but doesn’t slap you either. Nice.

Never seen this on tap. Going for it. GB's bottle shop. Very dark brown, frothy stemless pour. Dried fruit, dark berry, dried blueberry nose. Unique. Very nice. Really interesting licorice & vanilla flavor, middle of dried blueberries, turning towards toasty malt, very faint oxidation. Light roast for a stout, but so much flavor. Really, really good.

Bottled. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and spices. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, alcohol, roasted malt, and spices, leading to a bitter finish.

Roast and light wine--barreling is well integrated here. Chocolate, some coffee. Orange peel, leather black pour without much head. Light bitter end with some lingering tang.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out medium roast, light soy sauce, and a touch of dark sugars. Flavour is medium dry and moderately roasty, with a medium roasted malt character, light sugars and a touch of soy sauce. Roasty and soy sauce finish. A bit rough, dry and harsh on the finish. Subpar for Struise.
