With Robert The Great we refer to Lord of Liddesdale, Robert I, popularly known as Robert the Bruce, was king of Scotland from 1306 until his death in 1329. Robert I was one of the most famous warriors of his generation, eventually leading Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence against England. He fought successfully during his reign to regain Scotland’s place as an independent country and today is revered in Scotland as a national hero. This naughty one does what Robert once did, conquering a place of independence in the wild jungle of globalization.

0.33l bottle thanks to Lore. Dark brown body with a light brown head. Aroma and taste of raisins, orange zest, candi sugar and some nutmeg. Very smooth beer. I don't concider this as a stout but rather a belgian dark strong ale, but it's still an awesome brew. Wow!

0.33 l bottle from 'Etre Gourmet', 2019 vintage, bottled in August 2022. Black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty, gently vinous-fruity aroma of dark chocolate, port, some oak and a touch of caramel. Quite sweet, malty, gently roasty and moderately vinous-fruity taste of dark chocolate, quite some coffee, caramel, hazelnut, port and some oak, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, woody finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Not really how I like my Imperial Stout, too sweet and caramelly, still a nice treat due to the port barrel.

Clear dark brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft dark malts, a little creamy sweetness and a touch of smooth dark chocolate. A pleasant plummy liqueur led fruity vibe into a light semi dry and mildly caramel finish. Interesting Impy, very drinkable and nice to try a Struise beer without getting an overdraft, long may that continue....

330 ml bottle. Vintage 2019. Pours a dark brown with short head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of dark fruit, tobacco, dull chocolate and caramel malts. Flavors follow same. Slight fruity sourness and metallic notes like a Quad rather than a Stout. Good.

33 cl bottle poured into a Snifter. Label says 2018 vintage. Near black with a thin tanned head. Sweet aroma with toasted bread, coffee, liquorice, a fruity touch from the Belgian yeasts. Taste is sweet. Full body. Slightly drying roasted bitter finish with fruity undertones. Neatly balanced.

Aus der Flasche (bottled 17.07.2020/bbe 16.07.2025) im 2022-05 getrunken. Dieses Stout kommt zwar mit einer kräftigen Röstbitterkeit daher aber ein leichte Süße balanciert dadurch die Bitterkeit wunderbar aus. Ein tolles Stout!
