G40 is a shining example of a Golden Ale. A perfect mix of wheat and aromatic malts give a fuller body and a beautiful backbone of bread like malt sweetness. The fusion of hops (Herkules, Cascade, Chinook and Saaz) balance the beer with bitterness and deliver a big hit of fresh citrus and tropical fruit. Left unfiltered G40 pours hazy to the eye.

Old rating - A 330ml bottle my wife got me in Scotland. Poured at home in Jersey. It's bright amber with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of tropical fruits, citrus, caramel, banana, bread & wheat malt. Medium body. Mild to medium bitter finish. Enjoyable without been anything special

Bottle from Tesco, Irlam. Golden coloured as you might expect with a head. Has a mild fruitiness as hops and a slight over carbonation are the subduing factor here.

Bottle from Tesco, Aldershot. Sweet floral citrus aroma with a resinous hoppy punch. Opaque copper gold. Thin creamy white head. Medium bitter. Grainy. An underlying hint of butter that then disappeared. Light-medium bodied. Thin. Slick. Average carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. One noted. Hoppy enough to avoid being bland but not a particularly good beer.

[33cl bottle from Tesco, Warfield.] Belgian style bottle giving an amber pour with a thin cream head; malty aroma with a trace of orange; malty taste to start, then developing a strong herbal bitterness that is not entirely pleasant; leading to a dry resinous bitter finish. Not at all what I was expecting.

What would have been a bland but serviceable blonde is ruined by an absolute pig of an aftertaste. It's a mildly zesty, hoppy golden thing with a very bitter almost metallic-y finish. Far from West's finest work.
