Bottle thanks to Matt! Pours a near clear deep brown with a tan head that dissipates completely. Aroma has a good amount of dark fruits and an alcohol burn as well as some dark grains. Flavor has smooth sweet dark grains with a bit of toffee and a touch of fruits in the finish. A touch thin.

Bottle thanks to TheBeerCellar2 (Matt). I am pouring this into a wine glass. As I pop this I get a strong malt aroma. Smells like an English Strong Ale (BW or Old ale). The head is thick but fades to lacing in about a minute. The color is really really dark brown, almost black and barely translucent. Aroma is very strong and very malty with burnt brownies (similar to the Lees Harvest Ale I had last night ). The taste is very different though. The mouthfeel is a lot more carbonated. A medium body, actually were smooth just pours down my mouth. Very surprising, not so heavy and very light for such a strong beer. Maybe the aging has done it. I am loving it more with ever sip. The maltiness has subsided but still present along with a brownie aftertaste and some roasty coffee. The carbonation is starting to get annoying. I got another bottle which I’ll put aside for a few more years.

bottle at the Hampton tasting - Poured dark brown with a nice head. Light aroma of yeast and fruit notes. The flavor is of caramel malt with some dark fruit coming through. There’s a lively, medium bodied palate and a crisp finish. Nice.

Thanks to TheBeerCellar2 for this one - pours a nice dark burgundy color, with a very frothy, long-lasting head - aroma of plums, chocolate and some cellar/must - the medium body, foamy mouthfeel, dark fruit and chocolate of the flavor all seem very dubbel-like - near lack of hops, some caramel and toffee finish - very belgian-like - I like!

[Sampled October 2004] An unclear orange beer with an off-white head. The aroma is of oranges and peach. The flavor is a little old and dusty, but with notes sweet flavors of alcohol, malt, oranges, peaches in the over ripe end.

Hazy brown coloured body with a ruby tint. Aroma of cherries and roasted malt. Medium-bodied; Full mouthfell, sweet caramel flavours with roasted malt and some chocolate and coffee tastes. Overall, a decent beer-nothing more nothing less! I sampled this 12 ounce bottle on 15-May-2004 at the May RB Party in Toronto, Onatrio.

Thanks to goldtwins for the trade. Pours a very hazy dark amber/brown color with a medium thick and sudsy white head. Thick and slow lacing. The aroma is roasty with some spice and vinegar. Medium-bodied with a lightly sour fruit character. Earthy malt, coffee and spices are in evidence as well. The finish is tart with a touch of yeast. This is not as good as the ’01version but still it’s a shame it won’t be made anymore.

Bottle: Poured a dark colored beer with a huge off-white head with perfect retention. Aroma is a mix between roasted malts, sweet plums and strong malt. Taste is absolutely wonderful with some roastiness, sweet plums marinated in warm alcohol and a spicy finish. Overall, this is a greatly enjoyable brew while not exactly being rigorous to the dubbel style.

Thanks to TheBeerCellar2 for this trade! Big Mocha head that slides into a nearly opque dark brown beer. Malt aroma carries caramel and a hint of spice with it to the nose. A hint of smokeas well. Rich smooth malt and roast malt flavors with very little contribution from the hops. This has things in it that remind me of a Brown Ale, a Porter, A Smoked Beer and a Bock. A nicely done flavorful beer, but not typical of an Abbey Dubbel.

Abbey Dubbel? Hey, it wasn’t a bad beer but it was no dubbel. Muddy chestnut brown. Aroma is chocolatey, slightly nutty with cherry and blackberry notes. Flavour has a lot of milk chocolate...this might be a sweet dessert porter but abbey dubbel?
