0.33 l bottle from 'Het Huis van de Geuze' (online), best before 2025. Hazy, deep orangeish amber with a massive, foamy, stable, white head. Sweetish, quite fruity, gently funky, moderately floral aroma of mirabelle, peach, some hay and quite some brett. Slightly sweetish, quite dry, gently fruity and slightly funky taste of orange, brett, grains and some hay, followed by a short, gently bitter, fairly dry, slightly funky finish. Thin to medium body, quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. It's obvious that they're trying to replicate Orval. The smell was promising at first but, unfortunately, the taste was a bit of a letdown.

Dark orange colour with massive foaming head. Aroma is very much aligned with Orval with its sticking plaster, slightly medicinal iodine profile. This has slightly more candy, fruity esters though. In the flavour there's the familiar Orval dryness but with this one there's more residual malt sweetness. Really interesting and very close to Orval. Need to have them both side by side in the future.

Bottle picked up from Etre Gourmet, Grez Doiceau, Belgium Online Webshop consumed at home Sunday 2nd August 2020 whilst making Peach Melba Ice Cream, Peach Frangipane, Stuffed Tomatoes and Meatball Tagine. Listening to the new Protomartyr album 'Ultimate Success Today'. Pours hazy amber with a white head, maybe off white actually. A little bit sour, soft mouthfeel, a little bit numbing on the tongue, it's not really my thing, Orval Clone? really....

33cl bottle from Rob the Gourmets’ Market in Brussels. F: medium, white, average retention. C: deep gold with orange touch, light hazy. A: malty, fruity, brett, bit funky, peach, spicy. T: medium malty base, fruity, mineral, funky, brett touch, dry on the palate, medium to high carbonation, bit caramel, grassy touch, I like Orval so this is not bad at all for me, enjoyed.

My last beer of the night on 30th Jan 2020, a 33cl bottle in 't Brugs Beertje. Light haze to the golden pour, billowing white cloud of a head. Yeasty nose with a brett sourness in with a fruity ester or two. Taste also yeasty, bretty and fruity. Interesting and might be fun to have a side by side tasting with a similar aged Orval. May well do that one day.

Bottle. Pours golden. Aroma and flavor are hoppy, fruity, citrus, some sugar, yeast, funk, booze. Overall: ok, not really orval-ly.

Bottke from BIAB. It pours lightly hazy orangey - gold with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is earthy brett, pear, melon, candied orange, light ginger, bready, tang, sponge cake, cereal and just a touch of spice. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, grassy, earthy, brett, spice, pine, cereal, rich bready malts, floury, touch of pear, apple and melon, touch of orange and a splash of alcohol. Finish is bitter - dry and lingers. Medium body and moderate foamy carbonation. Quaffable and moreish. Not Orval, but a rather decent Belgian ale anyhow.
