Bottle. Pours black with rich tan head. Nose and taste of light bourbon, roasted chocolate malts, vanilla and tons of coffee. Very smooth for the ABV. Ever so slight iodine in the finish as has been my experience with many of the Mikkeller BA series.

pitch dark, small very smooth dark brown head. very well balanced, aroma, wood, whiskey, roasted stuff, dry hoppy balance, flavor is roasted stuff, wood, bourbon, licorice. well balanced, faint charchoal towards the end. The bourbon works exceptionally well, and the beer is delicious.

At Borefts BF 2010. Black, lasting tan head. Quite a lot of bourbon on this. Too carbonated as well. It’s decent, but prefer the regular Beer Geek Breakfast. Or indeed anything not bourbon barrel aged. Knowing how great the regular flavours are, the vanilla and other bourbon elements are a little too dominant for me.

Bottle from the CP&K, Pimlico. Jet black pour with a fluffy tan head. Very good body. Soothing aromas of vanilla, coffee, chocolate and a little toffee. The taste buds are entertained by an initial flow of vanilla and chocolate followed by a burst of dark roast coffee ending with a very nice bourbon kick. Extremely smooth stuff. Nice, warming alcohol. Exceptional brew.

Bottled from the Cask pub and kitchen london. Pours thick and viscous with a tan brown head that slowly fades to a thin whisp. When cold that aroma of bourbon really stood out, but this slowly diminished as the beer warmed up slightly, letting the dry coffee and toffee aromas come through. Much the same as the aroma the bourbon flavour also faded slightly with increased temperature, which i thought was really good since it was slightly overwhelming in the beginning. Big coffee and sweet caramel flavour and finished dry. The bourbon leave a pleasant warming coating on the mouth. Highly recommended

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dirty brown color foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of bourbon is dominating with some dry black chocolate notes also present. Taste is also dominated by loads of bourbon with light vanilla and some strong black chocolate notes. Body is quiet full with lightly oily texture and good carbonation with alcohol not really apparent. This is still not better then the un-barrelled version but still enjoyable nonetheless. Also, a lot more carbonation then the other barrel versions.

[9/24/10] Bottle at Borefts Beer Festival 2010. Black with a brown head. Aroma of bourbon, wood, chocolate and some fruity notes. Sweet chocolate flavor with some bourbon and wood. Full-bodied. I like the regular version better.

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Very black, coarse brown head. Aroma of licorice and bourbon. Sweet and full bodied with clean rounded mouthfeel. Massively flavourful with coffee, salt and tar as well as honey and bourbon. The somewhat clean moutfheel is a slight drawback.

Bottle at Borefts Beer Festival 2010, courtesy of Mikkel and the boys - thanks! This is a good example where a decent but not stellar base beer is improved byt the time in the barrel. And that time isn’t too long, since the barrel is evident in the nose and the finish, but doesn’t overwhelm the beer. Nice job.
