Dark nutty color with a small layer on top. Rich aroma. But not the rich alcohol notes that I expected. Nutty, caramel, fruity, raisins and plum. Thick oily body. A bit over to the sweet side. But not heavy sticky sweet. Mellow and balanced. Powerful flavor. Mostly dominated by a lovely balanced berry fruity taste. WoW. I did not expect this. The bottle has been standing in the basement for a couple of years. Kind of forgotten. And I had no serious plans to drink it either. Then the German national day popped up and well what the hell. We were watching a concert with Rammstein, and sitting in the bath tube. Also some caramel, vanilla and oak. A couple of years in the basement was an excellent idea. The other I have tasted fresher was not that good.

Deep brown and cola coloured body with a touch of a prune and violet glow and literally no carbonation or nothing on top - still. Aroma of ridiculously strong malt, pit fruits, raisins, prunes, plums, earth, mushrooms, chocolate and way too much alcohol to even mention. Full-bodied; Super strong sweet flavours of prunes, plums, raisins, earth, caramel, chocolate, figs and candy are multiplied by a ton of alcohol notes, malt and a hint of smoke. Aftertaste is cloyingly sweet with a faint vanilla and scotch note and depth, but the main cast here is all sugar. Overall,, to be honest - not as bad as I was expecting, but this is pungent stuff. More like a port than anything else given the lack of effervescence and the depth of sugars and the body, and actually that isn’t a bad compliment to be paid. Not a great beer, that’s for sure, but perhaps worth trying if you can find this! I sampled this swing-top 33 cL bottle purchased from Karstadt in Frankfurt-Am-Main, Hesse, Germany on 21-February-2009, before the World Cup in South Africa, but sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the pond to celebrate Germany’s victory in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brasil on 13-July-2014. Die Mannschaft - Congratulations - 2014 World Cup Champions!

Shared 330 ml swingtop bottle at local tasting. Dark brown colour. Very malty aroma, oaky notes, like a barleywine. Cloyingly sweet flavour, very malty, oaky hints. Not really great.
