Bottle. Pinkish red, cloudy. Cherry, marzipan and almond in the aroma. Sweetish, perfumed flavor with cherry and marzipan. Just a touch of yeast. Decent, fairly well made beer.

Artisanal top-fermented cherry beer based on ’t Gaverhopke Blonde, according to the brewer himself - but I’m talking about the original version here, from before the brewery was taken over. Loose, unstable, off-pinkish head, dark ruby red colour, cloudy. Fresh fruits in the nose, sour cherries of course, but subjective impressions of raspberries and apple sauce as well, next to sweetish pale malts and some (fortunately vague) H2S. Fruity onset, clear presence of genuine cherry juice, lightly sweet but a bit tart too, with a light hint of hop bitterishness in the finish. This was a very, and I mean very, old-fashioned cherry beer based on an ale, and in that particular class it wasn’t even the worst. Too bad for the H2S presence, though in this one it was a lot less pronounced than in the (again, original) Blonde, Bruine and Twaalf.

24/VIII/14 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ home - BB: VI/2016 (2014-938)
Clear ruby red beer, small irregular white head, unstable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: cherries in a can or jar, bit sourish, sugary. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish, cherries, lemony, some vinegar, bitter touch. Aftertaste: bit sour, unpleasant bitterness, some tannins (from the pits?), bit hoppy. Curious about which base beer they used to add the cherries to.

Kriek beer that itsn’t overly sweet, but tastes like real cherries. That means it’s sweet in a fruity way, with a slight tardiness. Nice one.

Bottle from the brewery ( thnx Bruno ! ) Pours rather clear , red/orange Small white foam . Unintense sweet cherry smell ( no pure sugar though ) Taste is thin, cherry ( a bit ) very dry , chewy background of bubblegum-maltyness . Metallic , weak , and not really good either

Bottle at Bierboom, Brugge. It pours rose with a small-medium white head. The nose is smooth, candy cane, strawberry ice cream and cherry. The taste is easy going, dull fruitiness, mild cherry, strawberry and ice-cream with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not essentially bad, there just isn’t really that much to it.

+/- 10 yr. old 33 cl. Bottle with no lable and covered in dust @ Kulminator. This was still brewed by the former brewer and not the new one. Reddish, Bordeaux, cranberry, light purple, some difficulties nailing the colour of this one, head disappears faster than I have ever seen, like the head on coca-cola or something. Smell is agreeable, smells a bit like a sweetened kriek, some dust, light sweet syrup and touch mustiness, ok so far. Taste on the other hand is hard to call enjoyable, rotting cellar, filth, dust, musty, rotting, highly fermenting kriek, rotting cherry pits, garbagejuice, rotting leaves,… Flat or close to. I have previously called Gaverhopke the worst brewery in Belgium, this does little to change my opinion of them. This may be the age or a potential sign that even under the previous brewer they used to be not too good. It can be said that this was probably not meant to be aged.
