Black colour, small beige head. Aroma of smoke, roast and peat, lots of peat. Maybe even too much peat. Quite sweet flavour, light sour notes, lots of smoke. Somewhat sour finish, nutmeg, peat, light wood, quite harsh.
(From 50cL bottle @ RBBSG II, Wilrijk. Courtesy of BelgBeerGeek. Thanks Vincent!)

Bottle courtesy of BelgBeerGeek, thank you sir! Murky brown color. Aroma of big whisky and vanilla. Taste is very peaty and roasty. Tough to start a tasting with this one, it’s more of a finishing beer.

Bottle sample @ 2nd RBBSG, August 11th 2012. Courtesy of BelgBeerGeek. Anno 2009. Brune assez plate.

Sampled at RBBSG. Murky opaque brown color, small beige head. Smell is incredibly strong! This is the most harsh smelling beer I’ve ever tasted. It’s almost like pure alcohol. Taste is a bit better, but still not really my thing. Warming alcohol, peat. Pretty weird stuff.

Thx to Belgbeergeek (2009 Vintage) // 50 cl. bottle split // pours black, little tanned head // Islay whisky is extreme in flavours, iodine, smoke, seaweed but it is still in some way balanced, sublime, maybe it is the distillation, it is light in body, extremely complex // I am saying this because this is like being hit by a train, not very subtle, very brutal // did they clean the barrels // reminds me a bit of BrewDog Paradox Smokehead // same insanity, not sure how to feel about stuff like this // smell is extremely heavy on the medicinal side of Islay, medicine cabinet, scorched earth, concentrated burned peat malt, burned malt, ashes // burned clay, earth, pure peat concentrate, ash, scorched earth, liquorish, cigarette buts, heavily medicinal, burned wood, petroleum,… // that doesn’t quite describe it but it gives you an idea, I am still tasting it // thick, oil, soft carb. // we rebottled it if it is still ok in a way, unsuspecting victims will get it // not sure whether this is entirely bad but it is too much for my pallet that is for sure

Pours mahogany-tinged black into an English pint. Tan head leaves trailing sheets. Peat and caramel aromas. Thick peat and oak upfront turning thin in the lasting smoky sweet toffee finish.

500mL bottle, pours a dark brown with a reddish tinge and a tiny ring of tan head. Aroma is a total peat / smoke bomb, with charred / smoked malts, ash, smoke, peat, etc. Flavour is totally dominated by the whiskey, with all of the aforementioned traits in the nose coming through even more pronounced on the palate - extremely ashy and smoky. Not my thing, but done well for what it is.

Bottle. This is a very smoke dominated beer. If you like Islay whiskey, you will probably like this beer. The most impressing thing about it - and also the quality that holds it together - is however the superb smooth texture. Very creamy and with almost zero carbonation.
