Originally brewed on October 25th to commemorate the Charge of the Light Brigade. Don’t be fooled by the strength, this is one easy drinking beer. A rich, sweet barley wine with a heady, alcoholic nose and incredibly complex flavour profile. Brewed since 1994 by appointment to the Queens Royal Lancers. They’re tough enough to sink a few….are you?
Now brewed in January and matured for 11 months to be sold over Christmas and New Year. The prolonged storage provides an extremely drinkable ale for its strength. A strong, dark aromatic and estery barley wine.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Clear deep amber - - almost orangey brown - with a small off-white head. Fat berry-like fruit aroma with some alcohol present. Quite full-bodied with sweet fruit accents and some caramel. Lightly bitter finish. 210309

Bottle, 7.2%. Peppery aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Good vanilla flavour to start with, turning malty and finishing with a mellow alcohol note. Slightly sweet. Good.

Bottled. An amber beer with a lazng tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and elderflowers. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and hops, leading to a bitter finish.

33 cL clear bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small white head. Dry caramel malty and roasted aroma. Flavour has the same with a bit of liqourice from back of the tongue. Smooth caramel and bitter to slight spiced flavoured. Ends dry and solid caramel malty.

[i] [b] Bottle from the Dodgi’ Deli’ Cowley Road, had this 21-04-08 [/i] [/b] Dark Chesnut pour with a rapidly receding tan head. Fruity and malty but a bit pushy on the alcohol front. Very nice beer with quite a decent tang, bit of an earthy quality and surprisingly bitter, this isn’t bad at all and if the alcohol was just a little bit better hidden it would score even more impressively.

Cask (handpump) @ Wellington, Birmingham B2, UK. Clear dark red brown color with a small, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, licorice, cola. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft. (120108)

Cask gravity at Dover BF. Deep chestnut, bubbly beige head. Quite a strong syrupy aroma, syrupy in mouth. Very malty, some good hops too. Some niceish sweet malt

Sampled cask conditioned. Deep burgundy in colour. Fruity and salty nose. Very malty, full bodied. Surprising almond and banana flavour. Very dry. Salty, bitter finish. Almost like a Belgian style doubel dark, but perhaps leaning towards a barley wine as well.
