En whisky doftande och rökig historia med ektoner. Dock tar sötman över en del så kanske skulle jag låtit flaskan stå något år till.

375 ml bottle @ Kulminator // split between me, Man-ki & Michiel // tasted along with batches # 4 & # 5 // from a tiny La Trappe tasting glass // 2010 Vintage // quite comparable variation of Batch # 4 or the other way around, sweeter with more Porto barrel in it, touch preferable, which is not that surprising once you the list of BA used for this blend / batch // clear amber, ruby, copper with a touch more beige head than Batch # 4 // porto & wine gum, more plentiful & sweeter than # 4, touch rounder, nice with a touch of berried, fruits, going to dry & candied, sweet liquer, syrup, wood, less than # 4 // caramel, sweet porto, wine gum, liqueur, dried & candied fruit, porto soaked raisins, sweet spices, berries, sweet spices, touch wood, small decorative touch of booze in finish // smooth, touch creamy / liqueur, softer carb. // really turned over my opinion on these Oak Aged // La Trappe Quad is not only an interesting beer on its own but a very interesting one as well to age

June 2011: Cork and caged 37.5cl bottle: Batch 3. Given to me, as a gift by Rudi from De Bierboom in Brugge, thanks Rudi. Poured into a Westvleteren chalice (and a Hoegaarden Grand Cru stemmed tulip, which got the sediment and bottle remains). Deep, dark brown/reddy coloured body, thin covering of off-white bubbles on top, clear without the sediment, the Hoegaarden glass held a different view. What an incredible aroma, spiced bananas in a liquorice flavoured custard. The taste is equally as incredible as the smell, port wine can be added to the thoughts from the aromas, this is a complex beer and I loved it. The beer excites the taste buds, loads to find and enjoy in the flavours: malty molasses, various fruits, more spices and herbs than you could shake a big stick at, Port wine and chocolate flavoured liquorice in abundance, a truly different beer. I don’t normally like beers that have been ‘messed around with’, but the Oak Aged bit seems to work with this beer. Almost gave this beer straight 5’s on BA: had to sit back and think about it, so easy to get carried away when a beer is this good!

Bottle thanks to Sarah. Pours a hazy deep amber with visible particulates and a light brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has notes of caramel, toast, spice and port with a backing cookie note. Flavor begins with bread, cookie and dark fruit and develops a port note in the finish.

Bottle @ Cafe Buitenlust, Oirschot. Shared with Thompson. Nice dark red glow coming through the dark brown color. Small white lacing on top. Smell sweet, slightly alcohol, lightly roasty. Taste wood, some kind of liquor, sweetness and slight roastyness. Nice lightly warming alcohol, good carbo, very nice pretty soft mouthfeel, medium to full body.

Pours deep cloudy caramel into a snifter. White head recedes leaving spot lacing. Bubblegum and oak aromas. Dry, oaky caramel and vanilla upfront turning to bubblegum and banana in the lasting finish.

Amber/Brown colour, small head. Smells wood, liquorice and like the beer-product ’Start the Future’. Tastes very sweet, wood, liquorice. Low carbo, full body.
