3/VI/2012 - on tap as "Cecco Beppe One Shot" @ Moeder Lambic, Italian Beer Festival (2012-585)

Clear deep orange beer, big creamy off-white to yellow head, pretty stable, very adhesive. Aroma: yeast, some spices, hay, pretty faint, bit dusty. MF: soft to no carbon, medium body. Taste: bit metallic, yeast touch, some citrus, bit floral, touch of summer fruits. Aftertaste: bit metallic, grassy bitter hops, some citrus, yeast.

Draught Huge, yellowish, very fine head with textbook lace over caramel-coloured beer. Fruity, citrussy, seems a mix of USA and EU hops. Totally un-Vienna style: too much hops, too little caramel. Orange peel, orangepeel on liqueur, point of caramel or coloured sugarsyrup, but again not truly Vienna. Light body, not enough slickness. Nowhere bad, but it wants to be an original take on something traditional, and it’s neither.

25 cl. draft @ Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas // Italian Beer Festival // part of the One Shot series // Cecco & Beppe are apparently common everyday abbreviations of common Italian names, a bit like Joe & Will in English I suppose // (a) clear apricot amber, creamy off-white head // (s) bitter floral, more in direction of herbal & floral but not on the heavy side, spice // (t) bitter, fruity, light yeast, touch grains, touch pale lager malts, bitter orange & more bitter lemon peel, touch floral hops in finish // (b) easy going, nice carb. // good stuff, nice hops, making me think of an IPA more but not very familiar with the Vienna-style

Draft @ Moeder Lambic Italian Beer Festival ’12.
