Cré Tonnerre, a group of freshwater sailors from southern Belgian Luxembourg met in 2005 at the Délirium Café in Brussels, where the idea was launched: and why not a rum beer to accompany the concerts? The group then turned to a potential partner, the Silly brewery, which already had 11 different beers to its credit. Meetings, talks and sympathy do the rest. Never mind, Cré Tonnerre® now has a professional distribution network and know-how demonstrated over several generations...

Since 2016 brewed at Brasserie de la Rulles.

33cl Bottle: best before sometime in 2013: poured into a ’Leffe’ chalice on 21st Aug 2012. Clear blond, sediment left in the bottle, will have that after this live review. Good full head of white foaming bubbles, plenty of carbonisation as the trail of small bubbles rise towards the head. Sweet floral hop nose, sugar cane sweet in the taste, one of the sweetest beers I’ve ever had: corn and Belgian yeasts add to both the aroma and the taste, but I couldn’t find any rum (or raisins), only sweetness. One small bottle is enough for a sitting: just a sweet brew (and I like the sweeter beers normally). Foot note: even sweeter when the grist/sediment is added, the rum content might even have been hinted at!

Bright blond colour. Sweet aroma with some fruity banana tones. Thick texture, quite sticky, sugary. Aside from the sweetness this is quite plain.

33cl bottle. Murky golden beer with a good formation of white head. Perfect lasting and lacework on the glass. Aroma is fruity, slightly spicy and yeasty. Flavour has citrus hints, with spicy and sweet notes. The final is slightly bittery. Moderate dense on palate. Carbonation is medium to lively. Body is medium to high. Texture is oily.

Bottled 330ml. -from Brasserie Henry, Budapest.
Slightly cloudy yellow coloured, medium sized white head, interesting flowery and mild spicy nose interrupted by four idiots behind me smoking cigars. Mild fruity, slight alcoholic and subdued rum taste with pleasant spicy notes. Not bad at all, nice surprise.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, pale golden colour with a blond and tall foamy head. Discreet aroma: yeasty and citric fruity with a floral touch. Sweet flavour, medium bodied with a sparkling carbonation. Pale malt character with yeasty and citric notes, as well as alcohol shining through; sweet and slightly sticky alcoholic finish. Rather undemanding. 04.I.11
