Pours a huge head. Amber color. Malty, hoppy, peppery aroma, somewhat flowery. Firm bitter flavor, almonds. Just a hint of butter, pepper and malt. Bitter afteratste with some blackberry.

The original version of the amber beer in this series, tasted in 2004. Deep amber colour, delicate flowery aroma with herbal hops, dried fruits and spicy notes; caramelly and nutty malts, refined, subtle fruit and yeast, quite full mouthfeel, herbal hoppy finish. Nice amber, a stronger version of a classic ’spéciale belge’.

Thx. to Dave for this one. 75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2013. I actually tried a bottle of “Zalig Kerstfeest & Gelukkig Nieuwjaar” from Willems or something like that but I am too lazy too add it & I am 85 % certain that it is a re-labeling of this beer. Pours a darker amber / orange with a solid white head. Smell is caramel, sugar, BE yeast, herbs, very sweet, white sugar. Taste is sweet yeast, sugary, BE spices, floral, fruity, esters. Medium bodied with too much carbonation – agreeable.

75cl bottle sample @ RBBWG 2013 as ’Het Anker Zalig Kerstfeest’.

Bottled. Slightly hazy reddish amber colour with big fluffy/foamy head that lasts for a while. Leaves some lace. Aroma is sweet alcohol, quite earthy and mildly spicy. Flavour is caramel malts, mild metal, some spices and quite much earthyness. Finish is quite dry.

Bottle @ Københavnske Øldage 2007 in Copenhagen. Hazy amber red color with a average frothy fair lacing mostly lasting off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, sweet, vintage, candy sugar. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Nice balance. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

(Bottle 33 cl) 6.5% ABV version. Hazy amber golden with a creamy, smooth, beige coloured head. Complex and unusual aroma of caramel and spices. Fairly full-bodied and very soft. Notes of apricots, caramel and a semi-dry sherry. And then a sophisticated mix of spices, but I have a hard time depicting anyone specific. Interesting and quite unique. 180206
