75cl bottle sample @ RBBWG 2013, courtesy of BelgBeerGeek. Cuivrée-acajou, col beige moyen. Arôme fruité noir, malt caramel suivi d’un houblon léger noble laissant une pointe de fruité citronné. Palais est malté tirant sur le caramel, le tout reste assez faiblard avec ce profil type Carlsberg, malt pâle/Munich juste au niveau pour le résultant attendu. Ajout houblonné reste subtile et noble dans un style forcément très allemand.

For this beautifully spaded & apparently 750 ml. bottle of pallet cleanser which I sampled @ RBBWG 2013 (sorry, I couldn’t leave that joke :) I still find dark lagers hilarious, when I hear a bear described as dark, I think black or even dark brown. Not like slightly darker amber but I suppose that for many beer drinkers this makes sense but I am still not fully getting it. Pours dark amber (woohoo)… Smell is a tad oxidized, lager yeast, lager caramel, some sugar with a touch of herbs. Taste is a bit oxidized, sugar, touch bit burned caramel, lager yeast, mellow, caramel lager, bit too cold (probably my bad, I am sorry). Medium to light. Its doable, apparently brewed after an recipe by J.C. Jacobsen which would be cool but such claims are usually nonsense.

Sampled from bottle @ RBBWG 2013. Hazy reddish color, small quickly disappearing white head. Smell and taste malts, a slight hint of sweetness and a touch of fruitpeel-bitter.

Pours clear brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, toast with a hint of fruity and floral hops. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a slightly dry and caramel sweet finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

A farely sweet, caramel like flavor. Color is nutty brown with a white head.

Bottle: Amber voloured, firm and stable off-white foamy layer, moderate to solid sweetish toasty and caramelly nose; moderate dryish bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied and soft; dryish smooth and toasty finish. A goody…

75cl Bottle: best before 25th May 2012, poured into three pilsner glasses on 10th march 2012. Three thin white heads sit on top of a reddy/browny amber body which is almost clear and bright, but not quite. Sweet molasses in the nose; caramel with some fruit and nut chocolate added for good measure. Easy drinking, maltier and sweeter than most dark lagers. Not thick not thin: about right for a lager based beer. Not bad at all, pleasant without being great. Flatters to decieve a bit.

Very fine & dense off-white to cream-coloured head over totally clear chestnut-coloured beer. Nutty, dark bread, Dunkler Bock-like nose; caramel malts, maltsyrup. Soft bitterish-leafy, with a breadcrust-like character on a sweeter, but again bready background. Hint at liquorice. Initially perfumey, but ending a bit sweet-sticky. Light to medium bodied; quite slick, even faintly oily feel. OK, certainly not a highlight, but compared to what the site once used to turn out...
