Jacobsen Original Dark Lager is brewed on the oldest recipe in the Carlsberg archives - JC Jacobsen’s original recipe of 1854. To re-create the original recipe, the Jacobsen Brewhouse focused on one of the key ingredients in beer - water. Water highly influences the taste of beer and by analysing the water used in Jacobsen’s time, an exact copy of his original ingredient was created by adding salts and minerals.
The main raw material is Münchenermalt from Germany but a "floor malt" from England is also added, just as was done in the 1850's. The beer is fermented at low temperature to give a special mild and rounded caramel flavour.

Clear dark amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, caramel and toasted malt. Flavor is medium sweet and very light bitter. Dry finish. Not too sweet like many other dunkels. 250910

Originally rated February 2009. OK. Wanted to do both Jacobsen in one night... but the other kind of got me in a unsober mood. So, the night after, I try this one. Pours a clear copper colour with a small head, that does not last long, and only leaves a bit a lace. The carbonation is minimal, with a little bubble popping here and there. Smells like dark fruits, like plums with some bread and butter. The taste of this one is much better than their Saaz Blonde, with some roasted and caramel malts, mild nuts, and well... that’s about it.

0.33l? bottle at AlePub, Helsinki. Murky amber-red body with a huge, thick off white head. Milk caramel nose. Sweet cardboardy caramel taste. Nothing more to say about it, meh.

33cl bottle@ Rotterdam, Helsinki. Pours chestnut color as it says on the bottle, with a nice beige head. Mild hop aroma, toffee and malt flavor. Very easy to drink.

A dark reddish amber lager with a thin light moka head. Aroma is pleasant, sweet caramel, light vanilla, very good. In m outh, a sweet mlat, with oily mouthfeel, very fruity, light cloves, some molasses. Overall, very plesant. Bought at LCBO, gift back x-mas 2007, so beer is one year old.

Amber with a small off-white head. Grainy and bready malt aroma with some caramel. Sweet and clean malty flavour. Rating: 3.0.
Unfiltered keller-version, served fresh at the Copenhagen Beer Festival, May 2013. Cloudy amber with a lasting off-white head. Big malty aroma with lots of bready munich malt character. Sweetish malty flavour, very rich with bread, biscuit and toffee. Super fresh!

not much of an aroma. Looks nice except for the fact that the head is non-existant. taste is nuts, caramel, malts. quite okay acutally. Session beer with a good taste, okay, but not distinguisable from most other such beers.
