Hearty northern people love a hearty stout beer. We’ve teamed up wtih Yukon’s famous Midnight Sun Coffee Roaster to create this special blend. Originally developed for "Bean Queen" Zola Dore in a small batch kettle system by Yukoner Mitt Stehelin, we’ve retained the artisan qualities of this unique, unfiltered brew. The robust taste of this hearty stout starts with the smooth glide of real espresso and finishes with a dry chocolatey malt flavour. Why the big bottle? You’ll love it so much, you’ll want to share it with a friend, or not!

Thanks to whoever brought this to share at kp’s Cellar Party. A black pour that produces a creamy head of tan. The aroma is roasty and a bit smoky with diminished coffee notes. A bitter and dry stout that might use a bit more sweetness to really fit the sweet stout style. A bit more body would bump this up as well.

A black beer with a brown shine when held against a light soiurce, underneath a nice brown head. The aroma is strong with notes of cappuchino, but notes of black coffee and vanilla mixes in. The flavor is primarily of black coffee and cappuchino, with a light roasted note, over a thin body. Somewhat boring - had expected more.

(Bottle 100 cl) Completely black and opaque with a creamy, beige head leaving some laces. The aroma is of pure ash. Rather soft mouthfeel. Medium body with lightly sweet malt and very burned notes - this is very ashy, a feature I don’t really appreciate in my beer. Discreet, bitter finish. Thanks to presario for this. 020606

Bottle (courtesy of Presario as part of the Secret Santa): Poured a pitch-black color stout with a small brown head. Aroma is pure coffee with subtle roasted malt. Taste is definitely dominated by the coffee with pure creamy roasted malt and light bitter ending. Wow, I’m quite impressed with that one and I don’t think I ever had a beer with so much coffee in it. Body is above average but could be fuller. Alcohol is also a bit low and I think the beer could have benefited from a higher ABV. Definitely the best beer from this brewery and impressive considering the no-man land it is coming from.

Night-black; cream-brown head, fluffy leaving some lace. Pure cigar ashes in the nose, aucuba leaves, or even tobacco leaves. Moccha, creamy, dry - and real ashes taste. Sweet and roasted flavours, like some exotic BBQ. Lots of scorched sugars, but not overly coffee, which might have spoiled the fun for me. Creamy MF, not overly scorched, dry-ish and not unlike moccha coffee with cream, all the way. Very smooth stout, sweet but not overpowering in any direction. What’s the big deal? It’s OK, I like it, but nothing more. Thanks for hauling this enormous flip-top bottle over, Mike.

2004 bottle at the Mondial, 6/4/05. Like mds said, this wasnt cheap and wasnt particularly worth the $6 CAD for a small sample, IMHO. Opaque brown-ruby color. A tan head is very bubbly and recedes rapidly to nothing, making me wonder how thick this stuff is. There is great lacing on the glass though. Coffee, honey, graham crackers, mocha in the nose, quite complex and inviting, though not particularly overwhelming with strength. Flavor starts out with bitter roast, vanilla, peanuts and dark chocolate. Light barley grains on the texture, a bit like sticky honey as well. Lightens up in body a good deal on the end, though I wouldnt call it watery, exactly. A mocha finish and light oily roast notes linger. Very drinkable for a medium strength coffee stout.

Deep brown ale with reddish hues, little head. Roasted strong coffee aroma, vanilla and a bit of ashtray. Sweet malts chocolate with a touch of licorice, and rapidly dissipating hops in mouth. Some honey notes. Rich and onctuous body, complex. Fall 2004. Thanks to Presario.

Black coloured body with a brown head. Aroma of coffee, chiles, roasted malt and a bit of sweetness. Medium-bodied; Sweet flavour with nice bitter coffee flavours. Overall, a great treak from the Yukon! Thanks very much to Jesse for bringing this one to the party! I sampled this 1 litre bottle on 15-May-2004 at the May RB Party in Toronto, Onatrio.

Very dark brown colour. Quite coffeeish aroma, with slight maltiness. Very coffeeish flavour. Walks the line between balanced and unbalanced, but ultimately retains its civility despite fairly heavy hand on the espresso machine. Despite this, it’s still not something I’d recommend to non-coffee fans.
