Clear copper and light bronze coloured body with a half centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of apples, pears, caster sugar, light yeast, malt and the slightest touch of herbal hops. Assertive effervescence; Medium-bodied; Strong apple and pear flavour up front with a malty and sugary sweet flavour coupled with some dry hoppiness with a little earth and floral notes. Aftertaste shows some more sugars of apples, peaches, pears and even bananas, but the dry notes don’t really come out, nor do any real hop flavours. Overall, a decent beer that misses the mark a little bit, especially with no real hop flavours detected, just a syrupy sweet belgie with some decent tastes. Still, i’m happy I brought it back (just because it’s on the rarer side) and it always pleases me that you can find any odd beer in any random shop in Belgium and have a nice rare beer for cheap - always - it just brings a smile to my face and makes me want to return, every day. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from De Bier Tempel in Bruges [Brugge], Belgium on 14-August-2013 for €2,55 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the Atlantic, after just booking a trip for Europe again today (for ten days from now) on 01-April-2014.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden colour with a blond mid-sized foamy head. Citrus-fruity hoppy aroma with mildly yeasty spicy notes. Slightly bitter flavour with a tinge of malty sweetness, almost medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Fruit-accented taste with notes of citrus and apricot, slightly sugary malt from behind; sweet-bitter and fruity finish with a touch of yeasty spice. Likeable. 19.I.13

33cl bottle shared by 77ships.

Slightly hazy pale golden colour, white head. Aroma of malts, lots of yeast and bubblegum. Rather sweet flavour, again yeast and bubblegum / sweets, some mineral notes. Quite thin texture. Bubblegum finish, malts, ending with a light bitter touch.
Not bad, but I’m not a big fan of strong candy/bubblegum. And why call it ’Houblon’ when the hops only play a role in the background?
(33cL bottle @ pre-Zwanze 2012 tasting. Thanks for sharing, 77ships)
