341 ml bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Hazy deep golden to brown-ish amber colour, small white head. Aroma of malts, molasses and caramel, hints of smoked malts. Medium sweet flavour with the same elements, but the smoked malts are more distinct now, hints of smoked meat and smoked fish, seaweed and iodine. .

This small brewery BW is a real revelation. It hits some balances that I love in a barleywine - roasted caramel malts, some booziness, understated rich tropical fruit and maybe apricots - augmented by some unusual elements - smokiness and some saltiness, reflecting the ocean environment in which it was brewed. Definitely one of my all-time BW favourites. It is a pity that L’Abri de la Tempete produces so little volume, making availability in central Canada a bit of an issue. The 2015 version might have backed off on some taste elements such as the caramel malt and the richness of the body.

I would consider this a smoked than a barley wine. Ok there is a huge aroma of bacon, smoke, sausage, and a great saltiness. The flavor is salty snd there is a nice sweet maltiness that adds itself to the smoke and bacon flavors. Quite enjoyable but not an evetday beer.

From my brother: pours copper with a white head. Aroma is lightly smoky, caramel, loads of malt, booze, and hops. Definitely is a bit of a rauchbier, but the barley wine aspect is strong with this one. Heavy body and huge taste. Fairly bitter. Lingering and boozy aftertaste. Much. Not totally my thing... but for those who like it...

Bottle. This Abri a la Tempete Barleywine was a slow gusher that poured a dark copper with a thick fluffy beige head. It has a very bready sweet caramel & lemony aroma. Very full bodied with a silky mouthfeel. The taste really surprised me with a delicious soft smoked maple bacon flavor - extremely Québécois in terms of taste. A truly unique Barleywine.

Comes together quite nicely. Some booze, lots of barley malt, floral hops and citrus. Pours clear orange with good lacing and head. Booze pretty well-hidden for alcohol percentage. Finish is pretty bitter. Soft carbonation.

341mL bottle, pours an opaque dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma is of dried dark fruits (dates, figs, apricots), toffee, and grapes. Flavour of grapes, other dark dried fruits, some toffee, a bit of oxidation, and some rubber. Not sure if this tastes old or if it's just crafted this way. Medium complexity that drinks easily enough for a barley wine and doesn't cloy. Standard, nothing special.
