27 September 2018. Birthday Antwerp Pub Crawl - cheers to Anke! At Kulminator. Pours clear dark amber-brown with a lasting, small, frothy, tan head; some lacing. Intense aroma of raisin, caramel, brioche, (liquor-soaked) cherry, leather, peanut, plum, bourbon & rum. Taste is medium, almost heavy fruity sweet, hints of raisin & plum, a bit (sweet) bready, light sour notes of sherry & oak; light spicy & herbal bitter. Dryish, earthy & herbal hoppy finish, sherry & wood notes, lingering sour fruit, warming sherry/brandy alcohol. Full body, slick to oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Unusual Abt, quite hard to put your finger on; good stuff from Struise.

(bottle, 75cl, vintage 2012) Hazy, dark amber coloured hue with floaties and a firm medium-sized tanned foamy head. Yeasty, slightly sugary malty and slightly berry-fruity vinous aroma with notes of caramel and cacao, backed by an oaky, woody touch, including hints of vanilla. Moderately sweet and delicately bitter flavour, full bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Dark malt character with notes of caramel, chocolate, dried fruits and oaky notes of vanilla; sweet and rounded bitter finish with vinous fruity notes and a well-hidden but nevertheless warming alcoholic strength. A very complex brew. 26.III.14

0.33 l bottle from ’Dranken Geers’, 2014 vintage, best before September 2020, cellared for about a year. The beer slowly streams out of the bottle. Clear, very dark red to black with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Intensely sweetish, fruity and a little yeasty-spicy aroma of caramel, molasses, raisins, prunes, brown sugar, vanilla and bourbon. Very sweet, malty, slightly fruity and a little yeasty-spicy taste of caramel, raisins, prunes, bourbon, vanilla and brown sugar, followed by a long, moderately bitter, warming-alcoholic, a little yeasty-spicy finish. Medium body, smooth and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Quite intense, very pleasant mouthfeel, just a tad too hot in the finish and less complex than hoped. Overall a nice sipper!

0.33l bottle. Very dark ruby body with a light brown head. Aroma of sour cherry, bourbon, plums, oak, dark sugar and apples. Taste of dark sugar, cherries, molasses, cocoa, raisins, bourbon and orange zest. The alcohol is noticable for sure but not disturbing. Awesome beer.

Bottled as Struise XXX Rye Triple Reserva (bourbon barrel aged) (2013). Muddy chestnut brown. Modest beige head. Lots of aroma. Massive fruit esters, caramel, toffee, banana, Port wine. Tiny hints of barrel. Full body. Very flavourful. Powerful Port wine. Prune, caramel, toffee, warming alco. Light ending bitterness. A hint of rye on aftertaste. Excellent.

Bottle from vintage 2014. Black colour, minimal head. Nose is not very intensive, of raisin and cane sugar. Mouth is the same, plus some bourbon and vanilla. Alcohol well hidden. Medium sweetness. Lively carbonation, medium body - I expected more full body. Pretty standard Belgian dark strong ale - a bit below from what I expect from Struise.
