Sitting in the Frankfurt airport terminal waiting for a plane to Turin may not be the most inspired location to write this label, but we jetsetters do what we must to meet deadlines....
This was a ton of fun to brew. So far, the most memorable part about it was sampling the first wort which had been mashed with lots of specialty grains and about 250 lbs of pure cocoa. It was amazingly smooth, velvety sweet, and rich with chocolate. I felt like I was tasting the luscious sweetness of a chocolate river. There’s gotta be a market for this, I swear!
I can’t wait to taste this finished creation that sprang forth from Jason Fields and Kevin Sheppard’s delicious homebrew. The cherries, a blend of dark and tart, will be added in a few days, and should make this a truly remarkable stout. It couldn’t have been done without the help and expertise from John Trogner, brewer of great things at Tröegs in PA and longtime friend of our own Bill Sherwood. It’s our second time brewing with fruit, and our second time brewing with chocolate. Second time’s a charm (just like the first time)!

Bottled. Pours dark, smallish head. More chocolate than cherry with maltiness etc. Pretty good.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light cherry with limited residual sugars notes and some black chocolate is really interesting. Taste is also a very nice mix of light cherry notes with some good black chocolate notes with a lightly sweet finish. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation. Quite enjoyable overall but I was expecting a bit more cherry notes to this beer.

Opaque black beer with a tidy dark tan head. Palate starts slightly soft but turns crispy and semi dry. Mildly tart cherry, good dark chocolate - sweetened by the vanilla. The two flavours in good balance. Softish finish. Very nice!

Deep dark brown pour with a medium dark tan head that evaporates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate and cherry. Makes sense. Medium body with flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, malt and cherries. The finish is mildly bitter dark chocolate and malt. Above average overall.

Refrigerated bottle poured into shaker. Pours opaque black with very small light brown head. A little lacing, medium body, and medium carbonation, and wonderful cherry aroma. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, some medicinal cherry, hint of vanilla and bitter coffee finish. Disappointing.

Bottle as shown. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is roasted malt and chocolate. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet roast and coffee with light bitter finish. A good stout from Stone.

Dark brown. Some dark roasty notes mix with fruity, almost candyish elements. On the tongue, this clashes a bit. The fruit doesn’t blend well, the stout in compressed and harsh.

Bottle thanks to my buddy. Poured a dark, deep color with a small tan head. Aroma was dark chocolate malts, with a touch of cherry. Flavor was sweet malts, cherry notes. Not too bad.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and oily with a medium sized very dark brown head that lingered and left some lacing. The aroma was strong cherry, anise and cocoa. The flavor was tart cherry followed by bitter roasty malts, vanilla, anise, coffee, berries and cola. The finish was long, roasty, wood and had vanilla, anise and berry lingering. Fairly full bodied and creamy. Well done.
