Midway between a Belgian blonde and a triple, its pale sweet malt notes never fail to charm the palate.

Brewed for the first time in the summer of 1996, its name was inspired by a nun who, after tasting a beer for the first time, said it tasted better than holy water (eau bénite in French). Amen.

33cl brown bottle, the fourth beer in my random weird beer tasting evening: best before 31 Mar 2011, drank and reviewed 28 Jan 2011. Poured slowly into my Westvleteren chalice, tried not to let any sediment out, failed: the beer was a cloudy, murky dull orange colour, old gold I suppose. The head was thin, wispy and off-white, it soon became just a weak collar. Good aromas of Belgian type yeasts and Continental Biscuits (Dutch Cookies). Fruity, alcoholic and very drinkable. Raw, sharp and interesting, this beer has a character and a style which appeals to me. Semi-sweet, yet with an undertone of bitterness which never actually reaches the surface until the mouth is really drying out after each sip. I can’t get Unibroue beers very easily in the UK, but I’ll certainly buy any I see!

Bottle 750ml vintage 2005 @ yngwie
Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, oxidation, sugar, dried fruits and floral, citrus hops. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with a long fruits and slightly dry finish. Body is medium, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured a hazy bright yellow-color with a huge foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was sweet sugar, bread and light golden fruits with a hint of pepper. The flavor was strongly yeasty and bready with notes of pepper, light golden fruits and a bit of mustiness. The finish was long and intensely bready. Fairly full bodied. Interesting.

750mL bottle, split 3 ways, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, candied sugar, some dry apples and banana - much more subtle than La Fin du Monde. Flavour is kind of odd for a tripel, with vanilla upfront, light candied sugar and a little yeast - the vanilla stands out, but the whole thing is pretty mild. Light-to-medium body with low carbonation especially for a Unibroue beer. Good, but lacking depth.

Pours hazy gold into a tulip. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Sweet Unibroue yeast and tropical fruit aromas. Medium bodied with sweet caramel and yeast upfront turning dry in the lasting tropical fruit finish.

750 c&c from Malt & Vine. Pours cloudy orange gold with a fizzy 4 finger white head. Gushed a bit. Aroma is fruity and very spicy. Med plus body. Flavor is yeast/spice, light stone fruit, and arguably some citrus. It does taste like a tripel.

Pour is a cloudy orange with a large white head. Aroma is Unibroue yeast with some sweet fruit and honey. Flavor is cereal, candi sugar with some yeast and a little alcohol toward the end. Finish is sweet, very sweet. Kinda a notch above par triple but that sweetness at the end brought things down and I was expecting more from Unibroue. I guess this just retired or recently un-retired b\c my bottle seems new.

330 ml bottle, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. BB date 31.12.2012. ABV is 7.7%. Golden colour, slightly hazy, huge white head. Strong sweetish stale malty and "unfresh" aroma, also some spicy notes. The flavour has some unfresh malts and acidic notes, hints of spices. Clearly past its prime.
