Inspired by the Flanders Red style; 18|13 started as a traditional red ale. We then pitched our House Saison yeast and Lactobacillus in stainless steel for a short fermentation. The beer was transferred to 3rd use Spanish red wine barrels before fermentation was finished, to ensure enough residual sugar was left in the beer for the Brett and other bugs in the wood to devour. We then added cranberries to some of the barrels, in which the beer aged for 12 months before being finished in stainless steel with lingonberries and raspberries for 6 weeks.

14 May 2019. At Dok Brewing Company, Ghent. Shared with Anke! Pours clear red-brown, no head. Aroma of redcurrant, cranberry, sour cherry, red fruit jam, wheat, dough, wood, lemon peel. Taste is medium fruity sour, redcurrant & unripe strawberry accentuated by a lemony & wheaty character next to notes of bread & dough, a bit bitter, hinting at pepper & fruit seeds, even a woody touch. Dryish, tart, woody finish, slightly hoppy, lingering red fruit & wine. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Interesting combination - 'fruity Oud Bruin' indeed!

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Wingman. Pours unclear red with a foamy, white head. Solid tart berry character, moderate funk, a little boozy kick. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Clean and tart in the finish, nicely balanced, more tangy berries, relaxed acidity, a little woody note. Solid work here.

Bottle from the brewery in Bermondsey and drunk at home. Clear deep red colour with some thin collar of beige bubbles. Balsamic vinegar and sour red berry aroma. Strawberry, raspberry, cherry, redcurrants all in aroma and flavour. Some sourness that is pleasant but not overly sour. Good red fruit no doubt. Some dryness, some bitterness, some dry puckering sourness on the finish. Doesn't drink 7& ABV. It's very nice indeed. Like slightly sour red berry jam. Great fruit. Touch of biscuit.
