Inspired by the Flanders Red style; 18|13 started as a traditional red ale. We then pitched our House Saison yeast and Lactobacillus in stainless steel for a short fermentation. The beer was transferred to 3rd use Spanish red wine barrels before fermentation was finished, to ensure enough residual sugar was left in the beer for the Brett and other bugs in the wood to devour. We then added cranberries to some of the barrels, in which the beer aged for 12 months before being finished in stainless steel with lingonberries and raspberries for 6 weeks.

Rather cloudy red amber to rusty red brown beer, big creamy solid beige head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: nice acidity, yoghurt, lactobacillus, fruity, red currants, floral, some lavender, bit of vinegar. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sour start, quite some lemon juice, tannins, little bitter, fruity, more vinegar. Aftertaste: more bitter than sour, weird enough, floral, bit soapy, lavender, floral vinish, some vinegar, more red sour fruits. More like a fruity Oud Bruin. Decent enough!

7-3-7-4-15 Bottle. 18 13 Pours slightly hazy red, with a small creamy head. Aroma is red forest berries, musty fruits and cherries, as well as notes of wood and minerals. Medium body, with very soft carbonation. Flavour is tart forest berries, cherries, musty fruit peel and fruit pits, as well as musty fruit and minerals.
