Saddle Black is our gnarly black beer using Pilgrim, Chinook and Cascade hops to help give a full smoky and citrus aroma. The roasted malts used to craft this full flavoured black beer will give a taste of chocolate and espresso, whilst the use the of smoked malt gives saddle black a well-rounded finish. With aromas are a mix of black pepper, deep fruits, orange and spices. The mouthfeel is full bodied and complex with a lingering bitter finish. IBU 65.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2015, Great British Beer Festival, London Olympia, Hammersmith Road, London, England W14 8UX. [ As Purity Saddle Black (Cask & Keg) ].Clear dark red brown color with a average, frothy - fizzy and open, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, light to moderate hoppy, citrus, fruity hops. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, roasted, citrus, caramel, sweet malt. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20150812]

Cask@GBBF 2015, Olympia, London - dark brown to black coloured pour with a beige head. Aroma and taste is a mix of roasted malts and tropical fruits, prominent hoppy, grapefruit, pine needles, some caramel, cocoa, roasted hoppy finish.

Cask at GBBF, Olympia, London, 2015. Mahogany coloured pour with a white head. Caramel malt and raisin aroma. Dark fruit and raisin flavour. Quite smooth. Interesting.

At GBBF. Purity Saddle Black 5.10% IPA The Apollo - B02 Pouring a reddish brown with a minimal beige head The aroma is acrid chocolatey malts and citrusy hops. Quite black IPA like. The body is med-full and silky smooth. Nice clean green bitter hop flavor with smokey chocolate fudge. Quite good.

At GBBF. Thin, light beige head, very dark mahogany colour with yellowish hue, black in its ’soul’ but translucent around the edges. Aroma of burnt toast, brambleberries, hint of smoked meat, caramel, pepper. Clean fruity onset, dried prunes, smooth but rather thin mouthfeel, caramelly and toasted malts with a nice smoky touch in the end, paired with peppery, aromatic hops which could have been more pronounced for me; toasted malts is the main impression after swallowing. Underhopped BIPA if you ask me, but still a very enjoyable, flawless beer nonetheless.

From cask. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted, crisp hops fruity. Bitter, toasted and mild fruity. Bitter, toasted and dark malty finish.

Cask at the York Tap, York, UK. Pours black with tan head. Hops, pine, fruits, roasted malts, chocolate. Dry bitterish finish. Good one.

On tap at Pure Bar & Kitchen, pours black with a medium beige head. Nose brings out a complex mix of roasted malt, cocoa, coffee and piney hops. Flavour is very similar, with notes of powdered cocoa, coffee, piney hops, and medium roast. The cocoa is the first thing to hit and then the roasted malt / hop body takes over. Very creamy body. Very good.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, March 2014. Jet black with a slight, off-white head. Sharp, citrus hops, some chocolate and coffee and a dryish finish. A bit thin in the mouth, but ok.
