Saison Du Japon

Beer #15 of 17 for each day of the 2018 Winter Olympics - One for a Country Participating in the Games: #15 - Japan Very hazy golden and perfectly copper coloured body with a large, four centimetre tall tan head with a billion bubbles rising from the bottom - nice! Aroma of grass, herbs, light spice, a good deal of fresh light and low alpha acid hops and a touch of yeast pungency on the back end. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal notes in the flavour with some light funk, a lot of dry malts, a touch of grain, a good deal of lighter sweetness and fruit notes (such as pear and apples) with a finish showing a light herbal and grassy element with some yeast complexity as well. Aftertaste shows dry grain and a light pungent herbal bite that goes down quite easily but still shows a great character and complexity, akin to some of the best belgian and american saisons, but lighter in alcohol, which is nice. Overall, a great saison that shows all the flavours you'd expect, with the same level of complexity, but an even smoother and mild bite, which is surprisingly nice. Great to sample and well worth finding and trying if you are looking for a slightly different take on a saison, or if you need a Japanesse beer, like I did! I sampled this 33 cL stubby bottle purchased a few minutes ago from Whole Foods in New York (Bowery), New York on 23-February-2018 for US$4,99 sampled a few minutes later here in my hotel room in New York on 23-February-2018.
