PONY’S draws its name from the smallest cone of the measuring device used by bartenders to accurately pour out spirits.
The PONY’S recipe was mixed and matched by the Ganzerik & Jigger’s bar team, in desperate need of a tasty after-work drink after just another night of serving delicious cocktails.
It resulted in a crisp, aromatic and hoppy blonde beer (4,3°%)

Golden colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of tropical fruit hop notes. Especially pineapple and grapefruit. Very full flavoured.

From tap at Ganzerik in Ghent, operated by the same people who own Pony's, a cocktail bar for which this beer was made - as well as another one called This Pony, which differs from this one only in being bottom-fermented, but is unfortunately no longer available so I didn't get a chance to compare the two. This one, reviewed by itself, shows a very thick and dense, creamy, regularly shaped, tightly cobweb-lacing, snow white head and lightly hazy straw blonde robe. Aroma of moldy old grapefruit, lime zest, dried mango cubes, unripe pear, soap, white bread, kiwi, minerals, mandarin flesh, starfruit, chalk. Clean, crisp fruity onset, hinting at unripe banana and pear with a dash of soapy starfruit thrown in, restrainedly sweetish with a sourish edge, which is heavily reinforced by sharp, very minerally (over)carbonation. 'White' bready, cereally, straightforward malt middle, supporting an elegantly aromatic hoppy finish, spicy and a tad exotic but soft in bitterness, releasing retronasal aromas of mango, lime, grapefruit and green peppercorns. Nice 'up-to-date', 21st century version of a simple Belgian blonde, with the New World hoppiness nodding at session IPA, but at a higher ABV and with less actual hop bitterness. Quite overcarbonated, but otherwise very enjoyable as a modern, elegantly hopped alternative to Belgian blonde or standard lager.

Thank you for sharing RB Crew! Sampled draft @ GBF 2017. “This Pony” was oddly a lot more cleaner, classical Belgian Ale interestingly so maybe people should make more bottom fermented Belgian Ales. Sadly the beer itself was as bland and boring as could be, a good way to show the differences I suppose but not too interesting beyond science and stuff. Nose is fluffy banana, soap, lemon soap, fluffy sugar. Taste is dull banana, sugar, soap, candy, plastic, white sugar,… Body is banana, sugar, soap, lemon,… Nothing wrong with it but so bland for me, balanced for others I suppose. “That Pony” is weird, usual for a top fermented Belgian I would say. Weird hazy golden soap with a white head. Nose is dull cleaning product, soap, sugar,… This one is a bit murky low vegetable with cleaning product soap, white sugar,… Soap, dough & cleaning product body. Weaker one. Dull flirting with bad.

Pretty cloudy bright pale yellowish to milky white beer, small creamy white head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: pretty fruity, citrus, bit grassy. MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: very malty, grains, hay, pretty bitter, yeasty, some lactose (?), sweetish. Aftertaste: grassy, hoppy, some grapefruit, sweet malts, bitter. Ok, not mind blowing though.
