Hand-pulled pint in The Angel on the Bridge, Henley on Thames; 3rd December 2024. Chestnut colour, off-white crown. Nutty, spiced and wintery somehow. Earthy and slightly on the sweet side, certainly more malty than hoppy, overall a decent winter warmer.

Cask at the Dolphin, Eastbourne. A pretty unappealing festive ale. Cinnamon heavy. Light abv for a xmas ale.

Cask handpump at pub in Thame, Oxon, Wednesday 14th December 2016 at our works Christmas lunch Pours chestnut brown in colour with a slim white head. Malt and fruit dominate in this Christmas offering, the mild spiciness adding to the festive feel. Hops only notable by their absence. Ok but if being critical slightly past its best, not too tired and perfectly drinkable but just lacking a little freshness and zip. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov11 3.0

[on draught in The Rising Sun, Reading] Rich, very earthy, a hint of fruit but an unpleasant bitter metallic aftertaste. I’ve never been a fan of Brakspear beers, despite having spent many of my beer-drinking years in their catchment area. Their move from Henley to the Wychwood brewery in Witney doesn’t seem to have helped, and this seasonal special has done nothing to improve my opinion of the brand in general.

(Cask at Market Porter, Borough, London, 23 Nov) Chestnut brown colour with a brief off-white head. Fruity nose with dried fruit and a nice aroma of earthy hops. Fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, followed by sweetish malt, nuts, caramel and ends with a dash of earthy hops. Quite complex and nice.

Draft at Jan Primus. Clear copper color, short off-white head. Thin aroma of some caramel and roasted malts with a fruity framboise hint. Nice balanced taste of malts, a bit creamy. Medium lasting palate. Nice brown ale.
