Can from Beer52. Dark brown with a thin and swiftly vanishing beige head. A bit fizzier than I like but not too bad. Good rich malty chocolate up front followed by black coffee and burnt fruit cake. Bit of a powdery mouthfeel, and there's a vague vegetable hint in the background, but it's a decent brew nevertheless. A pleasant sipper for a TV night at home.

[12oz can from Beer52 as Per Diem Pre Prohibition Porter.] A Cola coloured pour with a fast fading tan coloured head; aroma of chocolate syrup and treacle; smooth syrupy chocolate taste; with a smokey finish and a herbal bitterness. Pleasant.

355ml can from Beer 52: BB 8th Feb 2020. Drank at home on 20th May 2019. Dark brown/black body, off-white crown. Roasted malts to the fore in both the aroma and taste, some coffee notes within the almost burnt malty flavour. Fairly dry finish.

Can from beer 52. As Per Diem Pre-Prohibition Porter. Almost black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and chocolate with spice hints. Taste sweet to roasted bitter, with a full body.

Can pour into shaker pint glass from Cigarette City. Appearance is opaque black with dark red at the bottom of the glass, 1+ finger width foamy light brown head with decent retention and light foamy lacing. Aroma is lightly roasted malts, mild yeast, bubblegum, vanilla. Taste is bittersweet roasted malts, mild dark fruit, almost ashy. Palate is medium bodied with average-to-lively carbonation and mostly bitter dry finish. Overall, definitely on the lighter side all around, which is great if that’s what you’re looking for.

Can. Deep brown almost black, weak head. Aroma has rich notes of burnt malt, nuts, licorice. The strong bitter taste overpowers the flavors but this does add a nice final dimension.
The bitterness lingers after the sip. Light body but correct for the style. Correct for the style but don’t care for the anise type tones.
