Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Deep, chestnut brown. Ring of dense, tan head. Nose has black cherry. Grated chocolate. Hint of treacly smoke. Some brown sugar. Taste is black cherry sweet. A little earthy and woody bitter. Medium body. A little too fizzy, maybe. Finish gets a little sour and twangy. Predictably, it’s not as good as the first, higher ABV version.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Fruity aroma has notes of cherry, morello cherry, dark berries, kirschwasser, chocolately malty basis with notes of milk chocolate, hints of roast, a dusty yeasty touch. Taste is fruity, chocolately dark malty and minimally alcoholic, notes of cherry, morello cherry, kirschwasser, milk chocolate, chocolate sponge cake, hints of cocoa powder; oily texture, smooth, creamy palate. Fascinating liquid imitation of a good deal of real Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte sensory aspects.

Almost opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Soft dark malts with a fruit tang and sweetish dark chocolate. Mildly tart cherry. Trace of sugar dusting on the finish. Good concept, well executed. Hides the abv well.
