Bottle shared at work. Pours deep brown/borderline black with thin head. Nose is cocoa, dark chocolate. Taste is big cocoa again, a hint of chocolate, light sweetness. Some roasted malts and that cocoa touch in the finish again. Not bad at all, but way too thin and doesnt even come close to a pastry stout.

Bottle from Deconinck. Pours hazy black with a very thin, foamy, dark beige head. Aroma of chocolate powder, vanilla, liquorice, prune, brambleberry, mocha, bloody iron, walnut. Taste has sweetish prune, chocolate & nuts, rather restrained, leaving well enough room for bitter coffee & herbal liquorice, vague vanilla & toffee underneath. Malty, candy-like finish, bordering on marshallow, some herbal hops but sweet & sour coffee too. Falls a bit flat. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Pastry element doesn't work really well here.

Zwart bier met schuim. Smaak is bitterzoet met iets van chocolade, wat vanille, een vleug rook en wat port. Erg fijn bier.

Bottle at home. Reminded me more of a Christmas beer than a pastry stout (I brewed a beer a few years back which tasted almost exactly like this one). Medium bodied. Sweet and malty but not heavy at all, lots of spices and coffee and some acidity. I like it, just not really what I expected from a self-described pastry stout.

Almost opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is pretty light for the style, decent fine carbonation. Slightly thin dark malts but they bring a nice biscuity dark chocolate vibe. A bright fruity thing here, candy strawberry and cherry maraschino. Light smooth finish. A well crafted pastry this one, lighter and thinner than I would normally like, but La Pirata have made this work.

Hier is wat mis gegaan, de koffie is wel erg zuur geworden, zelfs de zoete vanille spekjes kunnen hem niet meer redden
