Brown bottle, 660 ml, savoured on 22 April 2023; eye: dark brown, opaque, no effervescence, ring and island of beige head, no lacing; nose: malt, light sourish, vinegar, light cellar; mouth: malt, light sourish, light vinegar, light residual sugar, sourish finale with light presence of vinegar, light-medium body, lightly below average carbonation, lightly sweet, slick texture; in summary: OK for such an old beer FRANÇAIS
Bouteille brune, 660 ml, savourée le 22 avril 2023; œil : brun foncé, opaque, pas d’effervescence, anneau et îlot de mousse beige, pas de dentelle; nez : malt, léger aigrelet, vinaigre, léger cave; bouche : malt, léger aigrelet, léger vinaigre, léger sucre résiduel, finale aigrelette avec légère présence de vinaigre, corps léger-moyen, carbonatation légèrement sous la moyenne, légèrement sucrée, texture coulante; en résumé : correct pour une bière si vieille

Originally rated February 2007. Weird... comes in a bomber, but with a twist-off neck. Pours a dark brown colour with mohagony highlights. Tanned head with nice lacing and a ring that stays (unlike the head). Very slow carbonation. Malty nose with a sweetness of red apples. Thin mouthfeel with very little stickiness. At first, a real bad taste with some rustiness and mild infection. Then, the mouth got used to it, and got better. The red apples are there too, with the malt. Interesting aftertaste, where roasted malt appears and then, some very light chocolat. Alcohol is very well-hidden and drinkability is decent. Will stick with Unibroue for Quebec 9% ABV beers.

Okay clear amber body with no carbonation, decent pillow of head on top. Aroma is a soft mix of malt and fertilizer. Flavour is bitter malts with perhaps some hops in there to add to the bitterness; watery palate. It’s an awkward mix of not-so-interesting things.

Brown. Flat-looking, slight haze. Deep fruity aroma shows hints of tartness. Very tart palate. Dry, fruity, going Flemish. Dark fruit and wood. There’s two reasons to rate a two-year-old dubbel that’s gone sour. One is that the early ratings indicate tartness so this was always in the beer. The second is that this beer gone sour is actually pretty tasty.

Bouteille 660ml. De couleur brune foncée et voilée. Nez de levures fruitées (cerises, traces de cerises sûres et de raisins), malté du genre caramel légèrement rôti, légèrement épicé (léger de poivre, traces de coriandre) et de noix avec d’alcool ainsi que des traces de chocolat noir. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement bas-moyen et une texture légèrement huileuse. Goût de levures fruitées aux petites notes sûres (cerises, léger de cerises sûres, traces de raisins et de pommes vertes, signes d’infection) avec de petites notes d’épices (coriandre) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût de malt du genre caramel moyennement sucré et léger-moyen rôti (faibles notes de sucre brûlé) avec des traces de mélasse et de chocolat noir puis en finale l’on retrouve un léger goût d’alcool très doux et de noix asséchantes accompagné d’un très léger goût amer de levures épicées (traces de poivre) et des traces de houblon herbeux. Post-goût moyen aux notes sèches, légèrement fruité (moût de cerises) avec un très léger goût amer de rôti et de houblon herbeux ainsi que des petites notes de noix.

Reddish brown ale with a thin off white head. Sweet candi sugar with light peppery notes and herbs. In mouth, a sourish sweet malt, with coriander and burned toast. Light bodied. More advanced infection in this one. Bottle bought at La Barik, Trois-Rivières.
