Level 42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Fergus. Light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry with reasonable carbonation. Smooth malts, mildly sweet, trace of rye tang. Whisper of paper. Mild floral fruits and mild spicy bitterness. It’s not awful!

Not a whole lot in the aroma department here like artificial cheese slices before they are melted. Pours hazy orange with pretty good foamy head and lacing. Some faint grain in there. Light tangy finish. Inoffensive and easy enough to drink, but not anything in the way of character. Bottle.

Single bottle from Jewel/Osco. Light English IPA hoppiness with the uncapping and pour. Hazy gold color with leggy foam along the sides. Spicy English hops in the taste stand out first, works with spicy rye malt. Very sessionable. It would be interesting to see an imperial variation of this, since so many double IPA’s overdose on citrus or oine American hops.

Bottle. Orange, rye, malt, and orange peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate off-white head. Lightly sweet orange, rye, malt. and mildly bitter herbal orange peel flavor. Body on the light side. Pleasant, but flavor a bit subdued.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy bright golden color with a large creamy yellow-white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was sweet and fruity with yeast, orange, and a touch of chalk. The flavor was bitter and tart and semi sweet with chalk, perfume and an astringent presence. Medium length finish. Medium body. Meh.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese. Pours very hazy gold with a slight white head. Aroma of sweet pale prunus fruits and I think rye. About med body. Flavor is rye spice, pale prunus fruits, and perhaps some citrus, grape and floral. I think it could stand more rye. It’s certainly not dry, and it’s only moderately bitter. But the combination of flavors works very well for me. I think it’s quite nice.

330 ml bottle into pint glass, bottled on 7/28/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, rye, light honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready/rye malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, rye, light honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel bitterness and rye spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, rye, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready/rye malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitter/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice pale ale! All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready/rye malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Still surprisingly vibrant on hop complexity for being bottled over 4 months ago. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle from Total Wine, Gainesville, VA. Pours golden, mostly clear, with a small white head. Aroma is very light: grainy, light citrus, hints of toast. Taste is not exactly off-putting, but it’s not great. Lemony toast is what comes to mind. A bit grainy and drying. More boring than offensive, as the next few sips make me not dislike it.

From a bottle this is one of the more milder more acceptable rye brews. It’s not trying to be the most rude rye IPA style beer around. Just enough rye to make you know its rye yet its not an IPA, pretty good. It’s about time that somebody made a well balanced rye brew that has rye attributes without being overly hopped. Not only is it well balanced and very acceptable to those who are new to the rye scene, but its quite quaff-able as well. Could do a few of these without issues, the abv has it as very session-able.
