Can from 7/11 Slightly murky deep copper with faint garnet and a thin wispy tan head that persists. Light smoke brown sugary toffee malt with hints of sour cherry on the nose. There’s more tartness in the flavor than the aroma suggested and its fruity tart. Still a pretty big malt presence with brown sugary toffee thats got hints of smoke and chocolate. Reminds me a lot of a scotch ale but with some lactic thrown into the mix. Odd mashup but it kind of works.

12 oz. can purchased at 7-11, Kittery. Very dark brown in color, not much head. Aroma is oak, dark fruits, cherry, strong yeast and some caramel malt. Taste is strong sour cherry. Mild lactic tartness in the center. More caramel malt and fruit in the back end. Medium to lighter in body.

In general I hate the style of sour Browns/Red, this was only mildly offensive to my palate. The overload of malt and fruit notes helped it.

Tap at Novare Res. It pours cloudy deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is earthy, damp wood, wet decomposing leaf, funk, must and black forest gateaux. The taste is tart, lactic, dark fruits, cherry pip, light cola, earth, wood, mild acidity and must with an earthy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent enough sour.

Draught at 3Crow Tavern, 8/1/15.
Lightly murky milk chocolate-colored brown ale with a small beige head that recedes to cover/ring.
Big dose of lactic acid in the nose is tart and mixes with the dark malts to produce some caramelized fruit notes, light prunes and plums. Surprisingly malty, with cream, vanilla and other pale malt sugars. Light cherries lingering on the finish, with no alcohol or flaws.
Again, shockingly malty in flavor, rather chewy and somewhat dense, though not syrupy or underattenuated. Lactic acids and fruity esters help to balance things and there’s a touch of crusty, brown bread-like malt. Somewhat abrupt finish, though some sticky honey and very light lactic notes linger. Medium-low carbonation, soft, chewy texture. Interesting, drinkable, but a bit simpleminded.

Sampled July 1, 2014 at the brewery. It is pretty cool a small start up has the opportunity to work with Struise. Brown color; sweet malt; almost like a dubbel with mild sourness. Some overly ripe fruit. good flavor and well balanced, which I don’t consider to always be a desirable attribute for its own sake, but this beer does it well. Musty, earthy finish.
