Bottle from Aldi, Camden on 30th November 2020. Pours clear coppery amber with shallow foam reducing quickly to almost zero. Tangy and grassy hop aromas. Blend of grass and tangy citrus in-mouth with caramel maltiness. A malty finish with some late developing bitter notes. Zingy mouthfeel and a medium body.

500ml clear bottle. Gold pour, small white head. Is this citra hops? It certainly has a citrussy and herb note. Maybe lightstruck instead. Taste is biscuit malts, light citrus, peach, weed, a hint of the boiled veg note which can be the curse of an English golden ale, but I've had much worse. Its light, refreshing, flavour is ok overall. Oddly if it was skunked it added some flavour to what would otherwise be a bland ale. Out of the 5 traditional ales in my local Aldi this is the one that seems to be selling the most!

Bottle from Aldi Supermarket, Milnrow. Golden with a small head. Its clear bottle has clearly had an affect on the taste here, its fruitiness has gone, replaced by a slightly skunky maltiness often found in brews that have been exposed too long to sunlight in this type of container. It was not off nor undrinkable with a fair amount of hoppiness.

Bottle. Gold with a white head. Aroma of light biscuit, pithy orange and lemon. Dryish with very English citrus and maybe a little tropical touch before firmish bitterness. Decent quaffer.

10/5/2019. Bottle from Aldi, Martlesham Heath. Pours pale gold with a small off-white head. Aroma of grassy hops, citrus, pine, tropical and light spicy notes. Medium sweetness with moderate to medium bitterness. Moderate body, oily texture, average carbonation. Best so far of the batch picked up from Aldi today.

50cl bottle from Aldi. Poured a hazy straw colour with a thin white head and a few bubbles. The aroma is buttery malt, grassy citrus hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a dry malt, light fruit, dry pepper spice, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Harper's Golden Ale on 30 Jul 2020 at 00:18 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 7 | Overall - 6.5. Had my brother-in-law round for a mini tasting on 7th Jan 2017: got out my cheap options: a 500ml bottle of this was the first offering and we were both pleasantly surprised. BBD 31 oct 2017. As the name indicates and as the bottle is clear, the beer is in fact a golden colour, on pouring it produces a decent sized white crown on top (see the name again). I prefer slightly sweet beers and this fits into that bracket nicely, biscuity like aroma and taste with a mini bitter finish. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Harper's Golden Ale on 31 Jul 2020 at 14:28 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 5.5. Original review text: 500ml bottle: BB 30th Jun 2021. Drank at home on 31st Jul 2020. I suspect this is a 're-named' Golden Crown which was also only available in Aldi (UK). Looks and tastes very similar to me. Clear and clean golden body, short lived white head and malty with a cheap streak running through the brew.
