You’ve heard of barley wine, well we are calling this a Wheat Wine, what we believe was the first of its kind in the UK.

We took our popular Henley Gold recipe to the extreme by bumping up the wheat.

To try and cut the heaviness from that much wheat we added our weight in local honey and fermented with our Henley Gold yeast strain and then patiently cold conditioned for 6 months prior to bottling.

Keg at the Rake, Borough, 21/12/13. Lightly hazed golden with a thin off white covering. Nose is light booze, caramel, sugar, soft bread dough. Taste comprises dark fruits, caramelised sugars, candyfloss, caramel. Medium bodied with a little bite, moderate carbonation. Ok stuff but lacks a little depth.

Keg at Lovibonds, 8th September 2013, 8.3 ABV, apparently according to bar tender. Drank below the ABV, not my kind of beer, ok, could not drink a pint

Bottle from Utobeer, shared with some Aberdonians! It pours clear golden amber with a small off-white head. The nose is caramel, honey, sweet ripe fruits and wheat. The taste is also fairly sweet...caramelised banana, apple, sugar, bread, wheat and a touch of alcohol warmth. Medium body, fine carbonation and syrupy carbonation. A bit too sweet and not a whole lot too it. OK at best.

Clear amber beer. Low carbonation. Soft palate. Sweet sweet malt with a little caramel. Some repressed sweet fruits. Just a very sweet and simple beer. Dessert beer? Drinkable!

750mL bottle, pours pale golden orange. Aroma of wheat, caramel and apples. Flavour is sort of an amplified apple juice, with wheat and candied sugar as well. Quite decent.

On tap at The Cask & Kitchen, Pimlico, London, 29.12.10 Pours hazy amber with just a tiny rim of bubbles. Sweetish smelling aroma with some honey and a light floral note but then a nail varnish waft. Quite thick in the mouth, sweet, with honey and floral things going on again the alcohol is noticeable but keeps reasonably well behind the scenes considering the strength. It’s ok but I’m glad that I saw it on tap as I would have been a tad disappointed if I’d have shelled out £11 or £12 a bottle, as it was paying £4 a half for what was comfortably only the fourth best of the beers that I had in this place today shows that I wasn’t overly impressed.
