Keg @ Draft House Charlotte, London. Pale golden with a thin head. Not too recognisably a kolsch in style, but it has a lager malt nose I guess best described as a fair imitation attempt. Feels like an ale though and from a keg is quite crisp with a fruitiness in its taste.

Keg at Mother Kelly’s. It pours lightly hazy gold with a small white head. The nose is soft, doughy, grain, cereal, light spice and lemon. The taste is crisp, smooth, bitter-sweet, doughy, grass, light creaminess, lemon rind, straw and pepper with a dry finish. Medium body body and fine carbonation. Smooth, well-rounded and refreshing. Rather nice.

330ml bottle from BottleDog in London. Fair white head to a crystal clear golden body. Spotty lacing. Subdued fruity aroma. Dough, and pears with citric hints to the taste buds. Semi-sweet ending. Rather anonymous (shared with Finn, 11.02.2015).

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear golden yellow pour with a thin white head, malt and digestive biscuit aroma, taste has light citrus, biscuity malts, floral action, some caramel, crisp and refreshing.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2014. Hazy pale gold. Some fart on aroma some ascetic lemon. Not much condition. It’s a pleasantish golden ale kolsch thing. Aroma and condition need to be better. Ok but has faults.

Keg at the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey, 29/11/14. Lightly hazed golden blonde with a decent white covering. Nose is clean smelling, bread dough, light smoke, citric rinds, grassy, hint caramel. Taste comprises bready malts, caramel, lemon rind. Medium body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid clean and crisp affair, easy drinking stuff.

Keg at the rake. Yellow straw coloured pour with a light haze and a fine fleeting white head. Aroma is crisp pils grains, hint of fresh lemon and grass. Clean yeast profile on the nose. Flavour is crisp, grains, hint of sweet malt, and nice Nobel hop character with a faint zip of lemon. Palate is nice and dry, some chalk on the tongue. Begs for another sip. Very tasty well brewed kolsch. Nice lingering straw and lemon with just a bit of plastic.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Kris Wines. Pours perfectly clear yellow-gold with a frothy, virginal white head that settles into a cream. Lightly effervescent. The aroma has delicate, biscuity pale malts, hints of cereal, ripening lemon, straw. Light-medium sweet flavor with straight-ahead pilsner malt, mild crispy cereal, faint bitterness of hay and grass. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Nicely balanced on the finish with further simplistic malt structure, cereal, biscuits, white bread, nipe of straw and grass, lemon. A good take the kolsch style. Light, delicate, highly drinkable - exactly as a kolsch should be.

Cock Tavern. Keg. Hazy gold beer, small white head. Palate starts smooth but it has a fine minerally crispness developing. Light clean malts, semi dry. Touches of floralness and and a whisper of pear ester. Touch of orange before bubblegum esters kick in. Light crispy finish. Not bad. But I am already wondering how these conservative German style beers are going to fit in to the ever growing and vibrant London craft scene.
